Job summary

Q-CTRL is seeking a Senior Compiler Software Engineer for the Boulder Opal team to design and evolve a compiler powering next‑generation quantum systems. You will translate pulse‑level programs into controller instructions, bridging quantum algorithms and hardware with a high‑performance compiler.

This hands‑on senior role requires deep compiler expertise, solving complex systems problems, and guiding engineering best practices while collaborating with researchers and engineers across domains.

Qualifications

• Experience designing compiler infrastructure and optimising pipelines.
• Strong coding skills in Python and C++, with attention to performance.
• Experience with language tooling, parsers or DSLs.
• Knowledge of compiler architectures, IRs, optimisation passes and code generation.
• Ability to translate experimental algorithms into production-quality compiler capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and optimise compiler infrastructure, IRs, passes and code generation.
• Maintain and evolve bespoke Python DSL used by researchers to build pulse-level programs.
• Build high-performance software using Python and C++.
• Collaborate with researchers to map algorithms to hardware.
• Run experiments on quantum hardware to validate outputs end-to-end.
• Influence technical direction and mentor engineers.
