Job summary

Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita, KS, is seeking a materials testing specialist to analyze raw materials and finished products, ensuring compliance with chemical, physical and mechanical properties per customer and regulatory specs.

The role supports Engineering by defining testing requirements, providing test data, and applying engineering principles to tests on metals, composites, sealants, adhesives, rubber and plastics to verify conformity.

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• 5-9 years of experience with raw materials testing.

Responsibilities

• Performs qualitative and quantitative analysis of raw materials, packaging materials, and finished products to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory specs for chemical, physical, and mechanical properties.
• Assist Engineering in establishing testing requirements and providing test data.
• Apply knowledge of engineering to conduct tests on metals, composites, sealants, adhesives, rubbers and plastics to validate conformance and provide consultation.
• Develop and implement new analytical test methods and techniques to improve efficiency.

Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units(“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminium manufacturing solutions.

Position Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of qualitative and quantitative analysis of raw materials, packaging materials, and/or finished products from manufacturing, to ensure compliance to customer and regulatory requirements and specifications in regards to chemical, physical, and mechanical properties.


• Assist Engineering in establishing testing requirements and providing test data.


• Apply knowledge of engineering and science to conduct tests on metallic and non-metallic materials (e.g.metals, composites, sealants, adhesives, rubber products, plastics) to validate compliance with conformance specifications and provide consultation on related issues.


• Applies existing techniques and procedures with recommendations and implementation for improved efficiency, or devises and develops new analytical test methods and techniques.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance


• 5-9 years of experience with raw materials testing

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

• Fiber/Void/Resin Content Testing on pre-impregnated materials


• Sample Prep - operating a CNC Machine, Lathe, table saw, band saw or grinder for metallic raw materials.


• Operating element analyzers


• Operating tensile machines


• Sample prep of composite and metallic materials for testing


• Composite machining

Summary Pay Range - Senior Level (Level 4): $60,200- $92,300
