Job summary
Valmont invites an experienced Senior NDT Inspector to apply advanced PAUT techniques and other nondestructive methods in a fabrication environment. This role supports quality on our Brenham and Houston sites, ensuring products meet AWS and customer standards with strong documentation and mentoring responsibilities.
The position offers evening shift work from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM with built-in pay progression and a discretionary annual bonus opportunity.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma and 7+ years of related experience; OR
- Associate Degree and 5+ years of related experience; OR
- Bachelor's Degree required or preferred for this role.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a fabricated steel manufacturing environment.
- Current Level II NDT Certifications, PAUT Certification.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Experience using measuring and inspection tools (calipers, weld gauges, levels, tape).
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot NDT testing equipment.
- Strong math, including fractions and decimal conversions.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform nondestructive examinations using PAUT, UT, MT, PT, and VT.
- Evaluate inspection results and determine product acceptance per customer specs and standards.
- Interpret inspection reports and make critical quality decisions.
- Ensure compliance with AWS D1.1 and other industry standards.
- Conduct dimensional inspections and verify product conformance.
- Generate and maintain inspection reports and documentation.
- Perform metallurgical testing and macro examinations; identify materials.
- Support quality audits and demonstrate Valmont's quality systems to customers.
- Mentor and develop less experienced NDT Inspectors.
- Collaborate with production teams to maintain workflow and resolve quality issues.
- Exercise stop-work authority to prevent quality issues and customer dissatisfaction.

Are you an experienced NDT professional looking for an opportunity to apply advanced inspection techniques, work with industry-leading quality standards, and make a direct impact on product excellence? Valmont is seeking a Senior NDT Inspector to join our Quality team and help ensure our fabricated steel products meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
In this role, you'll utilize advanced nondestructive testing methods, including Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) , while serving as a technical expert and mentor within our manufacturing operation.
This position's main location site is our Houston facility, Valmont United Galvanizing (VUG). However, this position performs work and reports to the Brenham, TX facility.
Starting Base Pay: $37.94-$38.63/hour, based on experience and qualifications
Built-In Pay Progression: Increase opportunities at 90 days, 1 year, and 2 years
Shift Differential: Additional $1.00/hour for off-shift positions

Evening Shift | 2nd Shift Standard Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM-11:00 PM*
*Additional hours outside the standard shift schedule may be required based on business needs.
As a Senior NDT Inspector, you will:
- Perform nondestructive examinations using: Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT)
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
- Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Visual Testing (VT)
- Evaluate inspection results and determine product acceptance in accordance with customer specifications, codes, and quality requirements.
- Interpret inspection reports and make critical quality decisions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, including AWS D1.1.
- Conduct dimensional inspections and verify product conformance.
- Generate and maintain inspection reports, records, and documentation.
- Perform metallurgical testing, weld coupon testing, positive material identification, and macro examinations.
- Support quality audits and demonstrate Valmont's quality systems to customers and third-party auditors.
- Mentor and develop less experienced NDT Inspectors.
- Collaborate closely with production teams to maintain workflow and resolve quality concerns.
- Exercise stop-work authority when necessary to prevent quality issues and customer dissatisfaction.
- Promote and uphold Valmont's safety culture and quality standards.

- Associate Degree in NDT from an accredited institution
- SNT-TC-1A Level II certifications in UT, VT, MT, and PT
- AWS Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI)
- Additional AWS certifications
- AMPP (NACE) CIP certification
- Advanced knowledge of quality assurance and inspection methods
- Previous experience coaching, mentoring, or training others
