Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking an Inspector to perform inspections on structural components and systems for Naval reactor plants, supporting ship construction, overhaul, refueling, and repair contracts.

The role requires a High School/GED with 5 years of experience, the ability to read drawings and use calipers/micrometers, and to work with engineers and production teams. Safety, accuracy, and documentation are key, with no relocation or telework offered.

Qualifications

• High School/GED with 5 years of additional education and/or experience.
• Ability to read drawings, rulers and procedures fluently.
• Capable of climbing into tanks and confined spaces.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with engineers and production staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections on structural components or systems per procedures and drawings.
• Review work orders, drawings, and specs; clarify requirements with engineering or production as needed.
• Maintain measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) for accuracy.
• Document inspection results and non-conformances in reports and data sheets.
• Coach and mentor junior inspection staff; identify trends and propose process improvements.
