Job description

OVERVIEW

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will champion supplier food safety and oversee procurement of raw materials and packaging for the Covington site. You will collaborate with site experts and partners to ensure the safety and effectiveness of General Mills’ products and processes.

PLANT OVERVIEW

Covington is a high-performance plant with approximately 465 team members, producing cereal and salty snacks for Morning Foods and Snacks Operating Units. It operates 8 manufacturing systems across 2 facilities, supporting brands like Cheerios, Wheaties, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Bugles, and Chex Mix. The plant has been in operation for over 35 years and maintains strong community ties.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Provide leadership in Food Safety & Quality, ensuring compliance, system capability, sanitation, and risk mitigation, and support material supplier food safety and regulatory compliance.
  2. Manage specific material categories (e.g., grains, sweeteners, flavorings, film, corrugated) by assessing supplier performance, ensuring specifications, and providing training.
  3. Lead global initiatives, including process improvements and standardization.
  4. Align strategies with cross-functional partners, lead risk assessments, and facilitate root cause analysis for issue resolution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering, Food Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in food safety or quality.
  • Mechanical aptitude, engineering principles application, troubleshooting skills, and proficiency in statistical analysis.
  • Willingness to support a 24/7 manufacturing schedule, including night, weekend, and occasional early/late hours (about 0-5 calls per week, mostly triaged over the phone).
  • Strong understanding of FSSC Standards and regulations.
  • Leadership, initiative, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Flexibility, innovation, collaboration skills, and ability to lead positive change.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with problem-solving tools (Root Cause Analysis, DMAIC, PDCA, FMEA, Fishbone).
  • Results-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to influence and lead in a team environment.
  • Visionary thinking to streamline systems.
  • ASQ CQE or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification.

Salary Range
