Job summary

Zoox seeks a Senior Quality Engineer for AHMO to develop systems, quality processes, and best practices ensuring high-quality LiDAR, cameras, and sensor pods. You will collaborate across PM, design, test, supplier quality, manufacturing, and risk management to uphold QA excellence.

A BS in engineering and 8+ years in electro-mechanical NPI are required, with travel up to 15%. Zoox offers RSUs and stock-based incentives as part of the compensation package.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering; MS preferred.
• 8+ years in NPI and sustaining engineering in electro-mechanical manufacturing.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making in fast-paced startup environments.
• Proficiency in GD&T standards, mechanical tolerance stack-ups, and statistical analysis (e.g., Minitab).
• Thorough understanding of QMS, NCMR handling, and driving SCARs/CAPAs to resolution.
• Ability to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Be the main point of contact among Program Management, Design Teams, Test Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, and Risk Management for hardware NPI development and sustaining engineering.
• Lead the setup of procedures and processes to align with quality systems (IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 13485).
• Lead PPAP and guide creation of quality documents (PFMEA, Control Plans, PSW, etc.) in quality databases.
• Develop IQC, IPQC, and OQC requirements and set metrics to analyze performance.
• Drive NCMR and CAPA to closure.
• Hold MRB meetings with stakeholders to determine disposition of quarantined units.

The Advanced Hardware Manufacturing Operations (AHMO) team is looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to develop systems, methodologies, quality processes, and best practices to guarantee high-quality products. You will support projects developed by cross-functional teams where quality results, teamwork, and initiatives measure individual performance. A successful candidate must have the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail-oriented, and be able to work independently.

In this role, you will:

• Be the main point of contact between Program Management, Design Teams, Test Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, and Risk Management for hardware NPI development, as well as sustaining engineering and failure analysis (i.e. LiDARs, cameras, and sensor pods).
• Play a fundamental role in supporting the setting up of procedures, instructions, and processes that will allow Zoox to align with the international standards for Quality Systems (IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and similar)
• Lead Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and guide teams to create quality documents including detailed Process Flow Diagrams, Process Failure Mode Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plans, Inspection Reports, Dimensional reports, Functional Test Reports (FTR’s), Process Certs, Material Certs, Rework instructions, Temporary Deviation Orders (TDO’s), Packaging Reports, Part Submission Warrants (PSW’s) in various quality databases including Jira, RGBSI, 3DX, and other Internal Quality Logs
• Develop Incoming Quality Control (IQC), In Process Quality Control (IPQC), and outgoing Quality Control (OQC) requirements and set metrics for analyzing performance
• Be responsible for driving NCMR and CAPA to closure
• Hold MRB (Material Review Board) meetings with key stakeholders to determine the disposition of on-hand units in quarantine

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering field (Master's preferred)
• 8+ years of NPI and sustaining engineering experience in electro-mechanical manufacturing
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills in fast-paced startup environments
• Proficiency in GD&T standards, mechanical tolerance stack-ups, and statistical analysis (e.g., Minitab)
• Thorough understanding of QMS, NCMR handling, and driving SCARs/CAPAs to resolution
• Ability to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally

Bonus Qualifications

• ASQ CQE/CQA/Certified 6-Sigma Black or Green Belt
• Experience with sensors such as LiDARs, radars, or cameras design
• Experience working in a fast-paced start-up environment and building a QMS from scratch

$185,000 - $220,000 a year

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
