Compensation: Base Salary up to $190K + Competitive Equity
Location & Travel: Travel-based, embedded on-site at portfolio machine shops in Denver, Southern California, and Seattle (60 to 80% travel)
Headcount: 1
Why you should join
- The client acquires precision machine shops and rebuilds them into modern, data-driven operations supplying critical parts for rockets, boats, drones, and defense companies across America.
- Backed by $21M in funding, with a $15M seed round closed in July. They're acquiring two new machine shops in 2026 and building client OS — their proprietary software+AI platform to scale manufacturing operations.
- Principal Quality role owning the quality management system across a growing portfolio of shops. $160K–$190K comp, travel-based (60–80% onsite), embedded at facilities in Denver, LA, and Seattle.
Must Have:
- Has led quality at an aerospace manufacturer
- Deep working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 QMS frameworks
- U. S. Citizenship required (ITAR/export control)
- Willing to travel 60- 80%; or based near Denver, LA, or Seattle
Required:
- Experience leading quality in aerospace precision manufacturing environments
- Proficient in GD&T, root cause analysis, and metrology
- Can earn trust on the shop floor and coach operators hands-on
- BS in mechanical, manufacturing, aerospace, or industrial engineering
Nice to Have:
- Experience integrating or rebuilding QMS at an acquired company
- CQE, CQA, Six Sigma, or related quality credential
- Experience with FAI (AS9102), NCR/MRB, CAPA, and 8D
Red Flag:
- Corporate-only quality roles — never worked on a shop floor
- Only non-aerospace quality experience (e. g. , food, pharma only)
- Paper-pusher mindset; treats quality as auditing, not an operating discipline
About the role:
We are looking for a Principal Quality Engineer with 7+ years of experience to serve as the senior technical authority for quality management systems and product quality across the client's growing portfolio of precision machine shops. This person will own and oversee the QMS for multiple acquired manufacturing facilities, ensuring compliance from ISO 9001 through AS9100 aerospace standards. You'll combine deep systems-level quality expertise with hands-on product quality judgment—troubleshooting scrap and yield issues, driving root cause analysis, and helping teams on the shop floor build scalable processes. This is a high-impact, forward-deployed role at a fast-growing company backed by $21M in funding that is reshaping American manufacturing for aerospace, defense, and commercial customers.
What will you be doing?
- Overseeing and building out the quality management systems (QMS) across clients' portfolio companies, driving certification and compliance to ISO 9001 and AS9100 aerospace standards
- Embedding on-site at newly acquired machine shops (60-80% travel) to identify systemic quality gaps, execute corrective actions, and stand up scalable quality infrastructure
- Applying hands-on product quality expertise—leveraging GD&T knowledge, root cause analysis, and manufacturing process understanding—to troubleshoot quality defects, high scrap rates, and yield issues at portfolio companies
- Leading First Article Inspections (AS9102), MRB dispositions, and 8D corrective actions while serving as the escalation point for critical quality issues
- Driving real-time quality visibility across the network by embedding automated workflows and inspection data into clientOS, the company's purpose-built operating platform
