Qualifications

Job description

We are a leading aerospace and defense manufacturer located in the heart of Ventura County, dedicated to delivering precision-engineered components and systems for mission-critical applications. Position Overview :

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quality Engineer to join our team and take a leadership role in maintaining and improving our Quality Management System (QMS). This position is critical to ensuring that our products meet rigorous industry and customer specifications, including AS9100 and various military standards.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead quality assurance efforts for manufacturing, assembly, and testing of aerospace and defense components.
  • Drive root cause analysis and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA, 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone).
  • Manage customer and internal nonconformances, supplier quality issues, and support Material Review Board (MRB) processes.
  • Prepare and review quality documentation including First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) per AS9102, Control Plans, PPAPs, and PFMEAs.
  • Conduct internal audits and support external audits (customer, regulatory, and third-party certifying bodies).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, production, and supply chain to resolve quality issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Interpret and apply technical drawings, GD&T, and military / aerospace standards to inspection and process development.
  • Mentor junior quality engineers and inspectors to elevate team performance and capability.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field.
  • 5-10 years of quality engineering experience in an aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of AS9100 / ISO 9001, DoD and MIL-SPEC requirements.
  • Proficient in quality tools : CAPA, FMEA, SPC, MSA, and risk-based thinking.
  • Experience with GD&T, CMMs, and various inspection tools.
  • Familiarity with ITAR and defense contract requirements.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or ASQ certifications.
  • Experience with NADCAP or special processes (e.g., NDT, heat treat, coatings).
  • Working knowledge of ERP and QMS software (e.g., NetSuite, Plex, or similar).
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
