Job summary

Inductive Automation is seeking a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer I to help improve Ignition product quality through automated and manual testing. The role involves validating builds, executing tests, and mentoring junior engineers in a remote, hybrid, or on-site setting.

The Senior QA Engineer reports to a Quality Assurance Group Manager and collaborates across development to ensure testability and robust release quality for multiple Ignition product areas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or at least 4 years related experience.
• 3–5 years of industry experience.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting in a complex application environment; analyze logs and reproduce issues.
• Proficient in Python, Java/JavaScript, and/or C++.
• Familiar with SDLC and QA best practices.
• Experience with Git and version control workflows.
• Experience with SQL databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL).
• Proficient with Windows, Linux, macOS; command line debugging.
• Experience with virtualization and containers (VMWare, Docker Desktop); persistent data.
• Experience with bug tracking systems and bug reports.
• Familiar with TCP/UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, IP protocols.

Responsibilities

• Validating issues of all complexity with minimal guidance including issues with regression risk
• Contributing both fixes and new tests to automated test suites; support junior QA Engineers automation tasks via mentorship
• Diagnosing run failure reports properly and transform them into actionable tasks
• Focusing on testing-related items within the development lifecycle, including testability of requirements, implementation, and testing
• Consistently meet target threshold for regression tests execution; add manual test cases where appropriate, identify deficient test cases, and provide mentoring on test case development and execution
• Developing and executing test plans that cover all functional requirements; determine applicable test strategies for medium/high complexity bugs and features
• Working toward and maintain an advanced level of proficiency across multiple Ignition product areas within the team's scope; gain proficiency as a subject matter expert
• Breaking down complex testing efforts into simpler phases
• Prioritizing unowned or undesirable work that enables the team to move faster
• Demonstrating autonomy without sacrificing quality or delivery time; resolving blockers
• Working with QA team and adjacent teams to solve problems; elevate problems with wider scope
• Building relationships with stakeholders including customers, product managers, cross-functional partners
• Ensuring knowledge is shared amongst the team and not a single point of failure
• Resolving issues and sharing knowledge by improving the execution of departments
• Maintaining advanced understanding of industries that use Ignition and SCADA software
• Staying knowledgeable about the company, its values, each division's contributions
• Helping junior engineers with issues and supporting their growth
• Improving team strength by advising managers and leaders with insights
