Job summary

Mercor seeks experienced Python engineers to build datasets that teach AI agents to reason about real codebases. You will work on codebase Q&A tasks spanning Django, Twisted, Scrapy, SymPy and more, solving high-signal engineering questions across large repositories.

This fully remote, asynchronous track pays per approved task at $130 and uses Mercor Studio for task orchestration, with onboarding including identity checks. You will collaborate with teams across US, India, and Nigeria time zones.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with production Python
• Ability to navigate a large unfamiliar Python codebase and explain runtime behavior
• Fluency in Python internals that matter in real systems (import machinery, descriptors/metaclasses, async/event loops)
• Experience with web frameworks, developer tooling, type checkers, or scientific/numeric libraries
• Precise written English: the questions and rubrics you write are the product
• Comfortable with git at commit level, containerized environments, and command-line tooling

Responsibilities

• Select tasks from a pre-validated pool of Python repositories, each pinned to a specific git commit
• Explore the repository until you understand the subsystem and its history
• Rewrite the task's question to challenge frontier coding agents while remaining well-defined
• Adjust rubrics and foils to reward correct reasoning
• Run the full validation loop in Studio — Check, Golden, Run, Analyze — and iterate until success
• Document your work in the task README and address reviewer feedback
