Job summary

Steampunk, Inc. is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to modernize legacy systems by breaking Java and .NET monoliths into cloud-native Python microservices. The role focuses on Python development, REST APIs, and batch processing across serverless and containerized environments.

You will deploy and operate services in AWS Lambda and Kubernetes, implementing DevSecOps and CI/CD practices while collaborating with stakeholders and teammates to deliver secure, scalable software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years total experience.
• 3+ years of experience writing production Python code.
• Experience decomposing or refactoring legacy Java and/or .NET services into Python microservices.
• Experience writing and deploying REST APIs and batch jobs in Python.
• Experience deploying Python applications to AWS Lambda and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Decompose legacy Java and .NET monoliths into modular Python microservices.
• Design, develop, and deploy concise Python REST APIs and batch service jobs.
• Deploy and operate services in AWS Lambda and Kubernetes environments.
• Apply DevSecOps concepts and CI/CD pipeline practices to accelerate secure delivery.
• Understand stakeholder needs and communicate requirements to developers.
• Write and debug code for innovative software solutions.
• Troubleshoot software quality, security, and reliability issues.
• Participate in code reviews and QA activities.
• Automate unit and functional tests.
• Test and examine code written by others and analyze results.
• Ensure software security against cyber threats.
• Identify problems, perform root cause analysis, and implement fixes.
• Support production releases (deployment, troubleshooting, testing).
• Document code, features, and training guides.
• Document as-is state and decomposition options.
