Job summary

PayPal, Inc. (Venmo) is seeking a Sr Staff Software Engineer for the Backend Python platform within the CFS group.

You will lead domain backend features, set standards, and partner with product management across multiple teams to solve complex money movement and security challenges. You will work on authentication, authorization, CFS verification, and fraud risk systems in a regulated payments environment, with a strong emphasis on scalable distributed services and cloud infrastructure at AWS

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of software engineering experience with backend platforms and security at scale.
• Deep expertise in Python and API management with OAuth 2.0/OIDC/SAML/WebAuthn.
• Experience defining and shipping large-scale distributed systems across teams.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and security engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Make technical decisions affecting multiple teams and drive cross-team initiatives.
• Set conventions and processes for engineering teams to follow across orgs.
• Partner with product management to ideate and solve business problems.
• Lead architectural reviews and define engineering standards for CFS platform.
• Mentor senior engineers and translate regulatory requirements into technical solutions.
