Job summary

Amazon Leo Mechanical Development in Redmond seeks a Sr. Photovoltaic Test Engineer to lead solar cell/module characterization and manage PV test equipment.

You will analyze data to inform power models, supervise test campaigns, and collaborate with vendors and internal teams on radiation effects and recovery pathways. The role requires deep PV device testing expertise, lab engineering skills, and the ability to develop new test methods while supporting broader mechanical/environmental test

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of PV device characterization, including IV, spectral response, and imaging techniques.
  • 3+ years of operating and maintaining lab test equipment in a research or production environment.
  • Experience with radiation effects testing or accelerated aging of semiconductor devices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead high-precision electrical and optical characterization of solar cells and modules using IV, EQE, and IQE to establish metrics.
  • Utilize PL and EL imaging to map defects and relate spatial non-uniformities to electrical behavior.
  • Conduct radiation exposure campaigns with multi-temperature light-soak to capture degradation/recovery cycles.
  • Own operation, calibration, service, and maintenance of PV characterization equipment including solar simulators and spectral response systems.
  • Develop and validate novel test methods, fixtures, and procedures for emerging cell technologies.
  • Analyze data to extract temperature coefficients and degradation kinetics, delivering technical reports.
  • Collaborate with solar cell vendors, radiation facilities, and internal engineers to translate results into design guidance.
  • Provide general lab support including environmental testing and equipment troubleshooting.
