Job summary

City of San Marcos, CA is seeking a Director of Public Works to provide strategic direction and leadership for the Public Works Department, overseeing streets, facilities, parks, and utilities. You will guide asset management, major projects, and grant-funded initiatives while ensuring exceptional public service and fiscal responsibility.

As a member of the executive team, you will mentor managers and staff, align long-range plans with city goals, and build partnerships with officials,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, civil, mechanical or electrical engineering, or related field is preferred.
• Ten years of progressively responsible public works experience with at least four years in a supervisory/management role.
• Professional certifications/licensure are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to managers, supervisors, and staff delivering public services.
• Guide long-range planning, asset management, and service-delivery improvements.
• Direct departmental operations, budgets, contracts, and major asset replacement efforts.
• Collaborate with officials, regulatory agencies, developers, and regional partners on infrastructure challenges.
• Support City Manager and Assistant City Manager on matters affecting infrastructure.
