Job summary

City and County of Denver’s Controller’s Office seeks a Financial Reporting Accounting Specialist in downtown Denver. The role focuses on preparing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, coordinating with external auditors, and applying GASB standards to ensure GAAP-compliant financial reporting.

The position emphasizes strong internal controls, complex reconciliations, and timely ad hoc analyses for leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration required.
• Three (3) years of professional accounting experience with analysis, reporting, and systems management.
• CPA certification and Workday Financials experience preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, adapt to changing conditions, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation, review, and publication of the City’s ACFR and related workpapers, ensuring GAAP/GASB compliance.
• Coordinate with external auditors, prepare documentation, and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
• Research and implement GASB pronouncements and ensure citywide readiness for adoption.
• Manage asset and lease accounting reporting in accordance with GASB standards (87/96) and other GASB pronouncements.
• Maintain internal controls related to financial reporting and fiscal accountability rules.
• Prepare monthly, annual, and ad hoc financial reports and respond to leadership and stakeholder requests.
• Collaborate across departments to resolve accounting/reporting issues and improve data quality.
