Job summary

State of Maryland, through the MDH Somerset County Health Department, seeks a Health Officer to direct activities, assess health needs and lead programs across multiple public health domains. The role requires strategic planning, policy formulation, and strong community engagement.

The Health Officer will coordinate with federal, state and local agencies, enforce health regulations, monitor disease outbreaks, and communicate prevention messages to diverse populations.

Qualifications

• Master's in Public Health and at least 2 years of public health experience, OR a Bachelor's degree with 5+ years in public health.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and collaboration experience are desired.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage the Somerset County Health Department's activities.
• Assess community health needs and plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs.
• Enforce health laws and protect public health and safety.
• Coordinate with federal, state and local agencies and inform the public on disease prevention.
