Job summary

Qualifications

• Education: Completion of a law degree.
• Experience: Three years of relevant legal experience OR three years at the lower level as an Assistant Public Defender.
• Preferred: Supervisory experience in a legal setting including supervision of licensed attorneys.
• Licenses: License to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for Georgia Bar examination.

Responsibilities

• Directs, administers, and supervises legal service activities for the Circuit Public Defender Office.
• Supervises staff and reviews activities to maintain efficiency and productivity.
• Identifies problems, develops solutions, and implements improvements.
• Provides legal advice, opinions, and recommendations on various legal matters.
• Represents defendants in court, including opening statements, motions, and arguments.
• Participates in jury selection and trial proceedings, including cross-examination and closing arguments.
• Prepares petitions, briefs, motions, pleadings, and other legal instruments for litigation.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of law and regulations and applies them to performance.
