Job summary

Pima County Public Defense Services is seeking an experienced Attorney II to prosecute or defend complex criminal or civil matters, manage heavy caseloads, and provide direct client representation across assigned offices. The role emphasizes strategic litigation, negotiation, and trial work within public defense services.

Requirements include a Juris Doctorate and at least five years of relevant experience; admission to the Arizona State Bar is required at appointment.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate and five (5) years of relevant prosecution, defense, or civil experience clearly documented in the Education and Work Experience sections.

Responsibilities

• Prosecutes or defends the most difficult and complex criminal or civil cases, or handles voluminous caseloads requiring specialized experience and training.
• Manages demanding criminal or civil cases in public sector law with or without supervision.
• Represents County departments, boards, and commissions in civil litigation and administrative matters.
• Prepares ordinances, resolutions, contracts and leases for consideration by county officials.
• Engages in negotiations for settlement of cases and ensures compliance with Victims’ Rights.
• Prepares litigation, deposes witnesses, provides witness notification, and conducts complex bench and jury trials.
