Job summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Senior Psychometrist to administer and score standardized neuropsychological tests within Neuro-Oncology, contributing to diagnostics, treatment planning, and research.

Qualifications

The Senior Psychometrist role supports the delivery of high-quality neuropsychological and psychological assessment services that contribute to patient care, clinical decision-making, and research initiatives. Within Neuro-Oncology, the Senior Psychometrist administers and scores standardized psychological and neuropsychological assessments, documents patient behaviors and testing observations, assists with patient scheduling and record maintenance, and supports training and quality oversight activities. The Senior Psychometrist works closely with clinical neuropsychologists and interdisciplinary teams. The Senior Psychometrist also contributes to staff development, operational continuity, and adherence to established testing protocols and standards throughout UT MD Anderson.

The ideal candidate will possess education and experience that support the administration, scoring, interpretation support, and documentation of neuropsychological and psychological testing, along with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare professionals. Experience training others, maintaining quality standards, and supporting clinical or research activities is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Test Administration

• Administer and score standardized neuropsychological tests and measures
• Perform a variety of neuropsychological and general psychological test procedures
• Evaluate cognitive, neuropsychological, academic, behavioral, and emotional functioning through standardized testing
• Score tests administered by the clinical neuropsychologist
• Adhere to established testing, scoring, and data collection protocols

Patient Support & Observation

• Assist patients in overcoming concerns, anxieties, aggressions, and resistance during testing procedures
• Interact effectively with patients and manage unexpected patient management issues
• Collect patient demographic information as required
• Document behavioral observations during assessments to support test interpretation
• Provide written summaries of patient behavior during testing, including incidental observations of interactions with family members, caregivers, or peers

Documentation & Reporting

• Record test results and behavioral observations accurately and completely
• Organize and present testing data in summary form
• Review scoring, data, and summary reports for completeness and accuracy
• Write progress notes in the medical record to inform hospital personnel of referral status
• Review and ensure the timeliness, accuracy, availability, and security of information

Operations, Training & Quality Oversight

• Maintain testing supplies and equipment inventory and record new materials as required
• Assist in scheduling patients for testing and confirming appointments
• Assist in maintaining patient files and related documentation
• Train students on standardized test administration procedures
• Train new Psychometrists on position roles and responsibilities
• Monitor and attest to Psychometrists' accuracy in standardized test administration and scoring annually
• Assist with coordinating staffing to ensure operational coverage

Professional Development & Institutional Support

• Assist with research projects and special groups
• Assume responsibility for personal professional development and support the development of others
• Perform duties at the desired level of competency
• Understand, adhere to, and model Core Standards as defined organizationally and within the department or unit
• Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION:

• Required: Bachelor's Degree
• Preferred: Master's Degree Psychology or Applied Neuroscience.

EXPERIENCE:

• Required: Three years experience with patient testing in a psychological or academic environment.
• Preferred: Five years experience with patient testing in a psychological or academic environment.
