Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the Electrical Analytical Division. The role will focus on protection system calculations, relay settings for HV/EHV substations and transmission lines, and assisting clients with NERC PRC compliance.

This position offers a hybrid schedule with on-site and remote work. Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering with 7+ years in protection engineering; a Master’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power/Power Systems) required.
• 7+ years in power system protection engineering.
• Experience with microprocessor relays (SEL, Beckwith, GE, ABB) and electro-mechanical relays.
• Experience with microprocessor relay software (SEL AcSELerator, GE Enervista).
• Experience with Generator/Transformer/Motor protection studies.
• Experience with HV/EHV substation and line relaying.
• Experience with protection software ETAP/SKM/Aspen.
• Experience with NERC PRC compliance evaluations.

Responsibilities

• Perform protection system calculations and analysis for clients.
• Develop relay settings for HV/EHV subs and transmission lines.
• Develop relay settings for generators, transformers, motors and LV protection devices.
• Assist clients with NERC PRC compliance evaluations.
• Relaying event report analysis.

Responsibilities

WORK LOCATION: This position allows for a hybrid / flexible work schedule with a mix of work spent on site at the Sargent & Lundy office and working remote from home.

This senior engineering position is within Sargent & Lundy's Electrical Analytical Division and willbe responsible forthe following:

• Performing protection system calculations and analysis to support a wide variety of clients
• Develop relay settings associated with HV/EHV Substation and Transmission Lines
• Develop relay settings for Power Station Generators, Transformers, Motors and Medium Voltage and Low Voltage protection devices
• Aiding clients tocomply withNERC PRC standards
• Relaying Event Report analysis

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering(background in Power/Power Systems) and sufficient industry experience is considered in lieu of an advanced degree.Master'sor PhD in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
• 7 or moreyearsrelevant engineering experience with an emphasisinpower system protection
• Experience with microprocessor-based relays (SEL, Beckwith, GE, ABB,etc) and electro-mechanical relays
• Experience with micro-processor basedrelay software (SELAcSELerator, GEEnervista,etc)
• Experience with Generator, Transformer, and Motor Protection studies

• Experience using protection system software such as ETAP, SKM, and Aspen
• Experience with NERC PRC compliance evaluations

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• Successful completion of the Professional Engineering (PE) exam
• Experience performing transient analysis of power systems using software such as: PSS/E, ETAP, SKM, PSCAD and EMTP-RV
• Experience in short circuit analysis and using software programs CAPE orEasyPower

Compensation Range

$100,019 - $152,807
