Job summary

NY STATE ELECTRIC & GAS CORP in Orange, CT, is seeking a Principal Engineer – Protection & Control to lead the design, configuration, maintenance and renewal of protection subsystems across AVANGRID’s networks in New England and New York.

You will perform engineering analyses, develop estimates, review protection system designs and contractor work, and ensure compliance with NESC, FERC, NERC, NPCC, NYISO, ISO-NE, NY PSC, ME PUC, CT PUC, and related standards. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of relevant experience required.
• Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain certification.
• Advanced knowledge of power system analysis and fundamentals of equipment protection.
• Knowledge of national/international standards and compliance requirements for power system protection.
• Experience with protection applications such as ASPEN OneLiner and ASPEN Line Database.
• Knowledge of IEC-61850 standards and related regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Perform protection system design, estimation, and analysis for transmission and substation projects.
• Perform engineering calculations and analyses to support capital programs.
• Review and approve protection system designs and contractor work with an emphasis on accuracy and standards compliance.
• Coordinate with engineering contractors and consultants delivering automation and integration work.
• Analyze fault events and prepare clear reports with corrective actions and lessons learned.
• Manage compliance programs and participate as subject matter expert during audits.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across departments.
• Represent the company in regional and national committees.
