Description
This position offers the opportunity to apply your knowledge of protective relaying and control systems for distribution and high voltage substations. As a Senior Protection & Control Engineer, you will primarily prepare protection and control schematics and wiring drawings for various substation modifications and upgrades to meet client needs.
- You will be responsible for developing protective relaying philosophies, selecting relay, control, and communication equipment, and designing SCADA and telecommunication configurations, including I/O assignments and connection diagrams.
- You will handle challenging tasks such as investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving a wide range of substation protection and control issues.
- You will prepare designs based on others' work for single line diagrams, relaying & metering diagrams (AC schematic diagrams), and DC schematic diagrams.
- You will conduct independent reviews of work performed by colleagues.
- You will develop your career through peer learning and sharing knowledge within Sargent & Lundy's systems and Communities of Practice.
- You will mentor less experienced engineers to support their development.
- There may be travel opportunities to client and vendor offices for design reviews, as well as to plant sites for construction coordination and field verification.
This position is based on a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office presence 3 days per week.
Qualifications

Essential skills and experience include:
- A BS in Electrical Engineering with a power systems or controls focus from an ABET-accredited program.
- 7+ years of experience in protection, control, and telecommunications for high voltage substations, including design, installation, and coordination.
- Experience with technical plan production, including blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Familiarity with standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Experience with vendor protective relay equipment used in substations.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Valued but not required skills include:
- Experience with in-line, bus, and equipment protection, control of breakers, transformers, RTUs, SCADA, and communications systems.
- AutoCAD or MicroStation proficiency.
- Construction and start-up experience.
- Testing or commissioning experience.
- PE license.

Compensation Range
$91,220.00 - $140,750.00
