Job summary

Astro Mechanica in San Francisco, CA, is seeking an experienced Senior Propulsion Engineer to own hardware design from concept to production, shaping the Duality engine and related subsystems.

You will shepherd hardware from prototype through flight qualification, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and apply first-principles problem solving in a fast-paced, office-focused environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years hands-on experience with fluidic and mechanical systems and propulsion.
• Proficient in solid, surface, and sheet metal CAD modelling (Siemens NX).
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, GD&T and precision measurement.
• Understanding of propulsion, heat transfer, thermodynamics and turbomachinery.
• Experience with data acquisition, instrumentation and power electronics.
• Initiative for continuous improvement in a fast-paced setting.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on quality.

Responsibilities

• Ideate on design trade studies with system-level impact.
• Complete detailed design and support with analyses (structural, thermal, fluid).
• Present design reviews and solicit stakeholder feedback.
• Assemble prototypes, design tooling, and establish work instructions.
• Conduct hardware tests and analyze data to verify requirements.
• Diagnose hardware problems and determine corrective actions.
