Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Propulsion Design Engineer to lead CAD development and release for UAV propulsion hardware. You will drive design standards, work with production teams, and ensure manufacturability and testability across interfaces and assemblies.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years in aerospace propulsion design, strong NX/GD&T skills, and experience with PLM and CAE tools. This full-time role offers growth in a defense-tech environment and requires U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in mechanical design for aerospace with propulsion hardware experience preferred.
• Proficiency in CAD modeling and drawings (NX preferred) and applying GD&T.
• Experience with cross-functional collaboration with production, machine shop, and technicians.

Responsibilities

• Own propulsion components and subsystems from concept through production release.
• Develop CAD models, drawings, and assemblies using Siemens NX with GD&T.
• Write and enforce propulsion design standards and best practices.
• Collaborate with machine shop and production teams to support builds and resolve issues.
• Develop work instructions and design documentation for repeatability.
• Ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and transportable through tolerances and materials knowledge.
• Apply engineering analysis (hand calcs, GFSSP, ANSYS, FEA, REFPROP) for sizing and validation.
• Support configuration management, BOM control, and change processes (Teamcenter).
• Participate in design reviews and root-cause investigations.
