Job summary

Carolina PRG partners with a growing real estate investment and management company to identify a Controller. This hands-on accounting leader will oversee property-level accounting, manage the close, and partner with the CFO to improve processes across multiple properties.

The role emphasizes GAAP compliance, timely financial reporting, and developing the property accounting team. You will lead the close, oversee financial statements, and strengthen internal controls in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• ,Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA required.
• 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with real estate/multifamily focus.
• Experience leading a property accounting team and coordinating across departments.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
• Experience with Entrata and Yardi or similar property management systems.
• Advanced Excel skills and ability to model large datasets.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close across the multifamily portfolio.
• Oversee preparation and review of property-level financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
• Ensure accurate accounting for rental revenue, operating expenses, capex, debt activity, and other property transactions.
• Review GL activity, reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany transactions.
• Maintain property books in accordance with GAAP and internal policies.
• Lead and develop the property accounting team with clear expectations and timelines.
• Strengthen policies, internal controls, and procedures for efficiency.
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Coordinate accounting for properties joining/leaving portfolio.
• Support annual audits and tax return preparation; provide schedules and documentation.
• Partner with other departments to provide meaningful financial analysis.
