Job summary

WSDOT is seeking a Property and Acquisition Specialist 5 to support the successful delivery of transportation projects through effective stewardship of the agency’s real property assets. This role ensures properties are managed responsibly, protected, and utilized in the public interest, coordinating with internal and external partners to resolve complex property issues.

Qualifications

• Recent experience managing or acquiring real property for a public agency under the Uniform Relocation Act of 1970.
• Proficient with computers and software including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe, SharePoint, MS Teams.
• Effective written and verbal communication with internal and external customers.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple assignments with deadlines.
• Active commitment to learning and growth; service-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage complex WSDOT-owned real property transactions, including leases and occupancy agreements.
• Prepare, process, and determine fair market rent for assigned transactions such as Airspace, Ground, and other occupancy agreements.
• Resolve unauthorized occupancies and encroachments by researching ownership, title, and rights.
• Interpret deeds, easements, plans, and other documents to determine property interests and impacts.
• Coordinate environmental, maintenance, utilities, design, and disposal activities related to properties and advise on management strategies.
• Review lease packages for completeness and compliance; apply laws and policies to non-routine situations.
• Coordinate with Headquarters, local agencies, Attorney General’s Office, FHWA and others to resolve issues and update policies.
• Conduct field inspections and maintain accurate property management records in agency systems.
