Job description

Brown and Caldwell is currently seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our growing team.


This full-time position will contribute to project delivery and client service teams in winning and executing innovative planning, evaluation, design, permitting, and providing construction support services for a variety of advanced treatment plants, biosolids, pumping stations, pipelines, and integrated water resources projects for municipal clients. We are looking for a Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineer with a PE license who will partner with leaders in our Northeast Area to advance our growth strategy while providing project oversight and engineering mentorship related to water, wastewater, stormwater conveyance, or related water engineering work.


Remote work from within the New England region is allowed, but the selected individual must be willing to travel (~25% of the time) to client sites throughout New England.


Detailed Description:


The individual will utilize their knowledge of project delivery, business expertise, and metrics, as well as project processes, resources, and techniques to effectively plan, execute, monitor, and deliver quality services to clients. The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal and personal effectiveness skills. Leadership qualities, exceptional communication skills, organizational aptitude, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to motivate and manage diverse teams and develop clients are essential.


Duties include but are not limited to the following:


  1. Project team leadership expectations:
    • Set direction: Support defining objectives, decision-making processes, schedules, budgets, and success factors.
    • Communicate: Establish effective communication methods for team standups, technical decisions, and client interactions.
    • Support Team Motivation: Empower team members, resolve conflicts, provide feedback, and celebrate success.
    • Establish Trust: Demonstrate integrity, competence, consistency, loyalty, and transparency.
    • Create a safe environment: Foster an atmosphere where ideas and creativity thrive.
    • Embrace diversity: Support an environment where diverse backgrounds and perspectives are heard and respected.
    • Develop team members: Contribute to continuous learning and skill development.
  2. Execution of BC's project delivery requirements:
    • Scope: Collaborate on detailed scopes of work, set clear expectations, and prevent overruns.
    • Schedule: Develop and maintain project schedules, recommend mitigation measures.
    • Budget: Develop work breakdown structures and project budgets aligned with scope and schedule.
    • Quality Management: Create and monitor quality plans, ensure standards and reviews.
    • Change Management: Manage internal and external changes, prepare scope and budget, and gain client approval.
    • Risk Management: Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor throughout the project lifecycle.
  3. Delivery of project and business performance metrics: Support achievement of scope, schedule, budget, and quality goals; monitor profitability.
  4. Client Service and Sales/Marketing Support: Build client relationships, assess satisfaction, and ensure project success.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering or Science field.
  • 12+ years of project management experience, including managing project scopes of $100,000 - $500,000.
  • Competency in developing and monitoring project schedules and budgets.
  • PE license or ability to obtain through reciprocity within 6 months.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and MS Project.
  • Ability to travel regionally (~25%).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • MS and/or MBA in related fields.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Previous supervisory or mentoring experience.
