Your Opportunity

Stantec is looking for a full‑time senior professional with strong project management and roadway engineering capabilities to lead various‑size roadway study and design projects for state departments of transportation and local municipalities. As a project team leader, the Senior Project Manager will work closely with a project engineer, roadway designers, traffic engineers and other team members to deliver location and alignment studies, preliminary and final design plans, and other technical documents common to roadway engineering projects. The Senior Project Manager will serve as the primary client and public‑facing contact for the project, provide supervision as needed, act as an advisor, and be actively involved in meeting schedules and resolving problems as they arise. They will manage the scope and integration of sub‑consultants and employees, and support business development and proposal delivery.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform on technically complex projects and act as a technical resource by providing guidance to other team members on roadway‑related projects.
  • Consult with clients, agencies, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.
  • Assist in the preparation of client proposals, reports, and the development of project design elements.
  • Lead a project team in inventorying and analyzing existing project conditions and determining the project’s purpose and need.
  • Lead a project team in identifying and analyzing principal design features and alternatives.
  • Lead a project team in the development of feasible design alternatives to be compared against significant project parameters such as site conditions, right‑of‑way requirements, utility conflicts, design standards, safety, capacity, environmental impacts, community input, and cost.
  • Peer‑review studies, plans, contract documents, and estimates.
  • Manage the team in developing highway and roadway design plans.
  • Be involved in the recruitment of new staff.
  • Supervise direct reports and may oversee other PMs.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Demonstrate recent experience developing highway and/or roadway projects.
  • Ability to lead design teams, manage projects, and check the work of others for accuracy and completeness while managing project time to meet budget and schedule.
  • Understand client expectations, budgeting, and proposal writing.
  • Knowledge of all relevant areas of transportation design and various design methods.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
  • Ability to lead meetings with the client, design teams, other agencies, and the public.
  • Effective communicator and able to work with and lead teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant design software, which may include AutoCAD Civil 3D and 3‑D modeling is a plus.
  • Ability to see the big picture of roadway projects.
  • Experience in storm drain design, utility relocations, and traffic design is a plus.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in roadway design or similar.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer is required.

Typical office environment involves working with computers and being sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
