The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $98,682.00-$162,826.00. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $100,000- $130,000 per year. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to report to Republic Plaza building 3 days in office/ 2 days remote. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

The IA team is seeking a Project Manager II (Senior Project Manager) with vertical design, construction and planning experience to focus on project delivery for our Customer Agencies which include Denver Parks and Recreation, Denver Arts and Venues, Denver Public Libraries, Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, Denver Safety Department, Denver Division of Real Estate, Housing Stability, Climate Action Sustainability & Resiliency and more. Potential project types may include master planning, space planning, design and construction of new buildings, interior and exterior renovations at existing facilities, and building system renovations at existing buildings, etc.


As a project manager for the IA team, you will facilitate the procurement and management of design teams, oversee bidding and manage contractors to implement work for our Customer Agencies throughout the City.The successful candidate will lead stakeholder groups collaboratively and with accountability. Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage potentially high-profile projects with unique budget, schedule and political considerations.
  • Create, analyze, and maintain project schedules and budgets in association with defined scopes of work in order to create cash flow analyses for optimizing the timing of project delivery.
  • Understand and manage the contractual obligations of all parties involved in the agreements for contracts that support the delivery of professional and construction services for Interagency.
  • Understand alternatives in contracting, procurement, and project delivery methods, as well as have the skill/experience to lead projects under these alternate deliver methods.
  • Monitor the progress of Contractors’ work to ensure projects adhere to overall project schedules.
  • Define and measure project performance.
  • Utilize technical writing and presentation skills to demonstrate trends within the market, agency, work type, contract, etc.
  • Prepare and communicate project status reports for key stakeholders and provide updates on project activities and identify project risks & mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor the budget for project planning, design, regulatory, and/or construction phases and ensures project deliverables stay on-time, on-target, and on-budget.
  • Interact with utility companies, City agencies/departments, and other governmental agencies to obtain necessary permits and clearances and to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint and open to learn new City software for Project Management.
  • Understand and apply emotional intelligence to your work environment.
  • Knowledge share lessons learned with the Interagency team and act as a mentor to your fellow team members.
  • Identify and implement innovations to improve project and team performance and efficiency.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Five (5) or more years of professional project management experience in commercial, institutional and/or municipal/governmental work as an owner's representative, construction project manager or as a design project manager
  • Experience managing complex, alternative delivery contracts/projects with high dollar values and with minimal guidance or oversight
  • Experience communicating amenably with project teams in a challenging and diverse environment
  • A passion for mentoring peers through positive interpersonal interactions
  • Ability to follow strict and ethical policies and procedures that guide municipal project delivery work
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Project Management, Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional project management experience in the related occupational group including planning, managing, and scheduling projects and preparing and reviewing contract documents.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
