Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Project Manager in Alaska to lead the technical development of urban roadway design projects and oversee major transportation initiatives. You will perform QA checks, act as a technical expert, and interact with clients while guiding project teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.

The role emphasizes leadership, communications, and coordination across disciplines, with responsibility for delivering complex mobility solutions in the region.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Professional engineering license (PE/P.Eng).
  • 10+ years in roadway engineering design.
  • Experience with urban/rural interchanges and traffic management.
  • Ability to lead teams and coordinate with clients.

In the part time role of Senior Project Manager, we’ll count on you to:

  • Serve in the lead technical role in the detailed development of urban roadway design projects
  • Perform quality assurance checks on major transportation projects on interstate and state highway systems
  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in an area of specialization that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity
  • Assume some project management duties and interact with clients as needed
  • Assume some project management duties as needed and have a fair amount of client interaction
  • Supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8 years project management experience (scope, schedule, budget)
  • Experience managing projects for clients in Alaska specifically the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
  • Strong relationships within the Alaska A&E industry
  • Ability to promote delivery of all HDR services to clients and serve as a Project Manager and Lead Designer for transportation/roadway projects
  • Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of key projects to support a positive client experience
  • Perform quality reviews of proposal and interview materials
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, communication skills and ability to work with various teams
  • Project management skills desirable
  • Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
  • Must have coordinated survey, grading, drainage and utilities and layout of various site items is a plus
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
