Job summary

Lansing Board of Water & Light is seeking a Senior Project Manager for ITD in Lansing to lead complex IT initiatives from inception to closure, ensuring scope, schedule, budget and quality targets are met. You will coordinate cross-functional teams, manage vendor relationships, and deliver clear progress updates to stakeholders.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in IT or PM, 7–10 years of related experience, and hands-on experience with project lifecycle management, including large application

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Project Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7–10 years of related experience.
  • PMBOK Guide, 6th Edition proficiency.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal communication.
  • Minimum 5 years managing Application Development projects.
  • Minimum 5 years managing COTS systems.
  • Minimum 5 years IT vendor management.
  • Experience with full system development lifecycle for large IT projects.
  • Experience in large, complex IT environments.
  • Experience managing project budgets over $1M.
  • Experience leading teams of 10+ resources.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage project development from initiation to closure.
  • Develop full-scale project plans and communication documents.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
  • Identify dependencies and critical paths.

This position effectively manages the coordination and communications of a project as it relates to the scope, schedule, budget, quality, risks, procurement, and stakeholders.# # **Essential Functions:*** Effectively manages the coordination and communications of a project as it relates to the scope, schedule, budget, quality, risks, procurement, and stakeholders.* Proactively manage project related issues, with particular emphasis on those that may affect the scope, schedule, and/or budget and devise contingency plans.* Direct and manage project development from beginning to end.* Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents.* Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.* Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.* Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.* Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.* Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.* Expected to comply with all BWL policies and work rules.* Predictable and reliable attendance.* Other duties as assigned by supervisor.# # **Job Specifications:****Required:*** Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, Project Management, or other related field from an accredited college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.* Must have a minimum of seven to ten years of related experience.* Proficient with the principles of Project Management as defined by the PMBOK Guide, 6th Edition.* Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.* Minimum of 5 years of experience managing Application Development projects.* Minimum of 5 years of experience implementing Commercial Off the Shelf systems.* Minimum of 5 years of experience managing IT vendors.* Practical experience implementing full system develop lifecycle for large IT projects.* Practical experience working in a large, complex Information Technology environment.* Experience managing project budgets of over $1M.* Experience managing project teams of 10+ resources.* Experience managing multiple, concurrent projects of high complexity.* Must have experience with Microsoft Office, project scheduling software (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Changepoint, Clarity).**Preferred:*** Prefer Project/Program/Portfolio Management Professional (PMP, PgMP,or PfMP) certification.# # **Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:**Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the working day. The person in this position needs to move about inside the office environment. Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen. Must communicate frequently with other departments and employees both verbally and in writing. May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/ below the knee level, or reach above head. On occasion, may need to use stairs.
