Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
  • Minimum 15 years of highway design, permitting and project management experience.
  • NJDEP, NEPA process, environmental permitting experience a plus.
  • New Jersey PE license required.
  • Experience with NJDOT, NJ Turnpike, NJ Counties and/or MPOs preferred.
  • Strong client management, communications and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead highway engineering design tasks including geometrics, profiles, soil erosion and traffic maintenance.
  • Manage projects in scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop project plans and quality management plans.
  • Create and maintain project schedules and deliverables.
  • Coordinate with subconsultants and internal teams to mitigate risks.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to project teams and stakeholders.

Position summary

Responsible for leading JMT's high-dollar, complex projects to ensure a high-quality delivery through quality, schedule, and budget. The Senior PM will begin the project life cycle by identifying leads and marketing efforts on targeted areas of growth. The individual serves in a leadership role providing guidance and mentorship as well as ensuring project(s) continue to align with JMT's organizational goals.

Compensation is $165,000 to $190,000 commensurate with experience, education, and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. Essential functions and responsibilities
  • Lead and/or conduct Highway Engineering design tasks including geometrics, profiles/grading, soil erosion and sediment control, and maintenance and protection of traffic.
  • Manages project(s) in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Collaborates with disciplines and subconsultants to develop a risk adverse project scope and fee.
  • Develop project specific project plans, Project Management Plans/quality management plan.
  • Create and maintain project schedules.
  • Assist with production tasks for client submittals and deliverables (CADD drawings, reports, graphics/renderings)
  • Provide quality control reviews of submittals and deliverables
  • Manage subconsultants
  • Monitor and execute project progress, including identifying and mitigate risks, developing extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals.
  • Communicate project status, updates, and issues to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in office’s project financial status meetings.
  • Build relationships with client(s) to understand preferences and requirements to set-up and execute a quality project.
  • Prepare progress reports and review invoices.
  • Develop and lead project status and presentations
  • Assist Office Leaders, and Practice Leaders with the marketing process including, SMART Go/No Go decisions, proposal development, interviews, and developing a win strategy.
  • Collaborating with Section Head and Office Leader on identifying leads and opportunities based on strategic goals.
  • Assist Office Leader with developing strategic goals based on client's program information, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of clients and other industry stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and guide all technical resources within the project team to ensure delivery of a high-quality outcome.
  • Leveraging advanced knowledge and experience with the client and project type to analyze the project, anticipate potential risks (such as overruns and scope changes), and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Implement strategies for project tracking and reporting by using project performance metrics to foresee and mitigate issues.
  • Providing coaching and mentorship to the project team through one-on-one check-in meetings and various project debrief to acknowledge achievements, identify areas for improvement, and share lessons learned.
  • Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team.

Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience with highway design, permitting and project management.
  • Experience with NJDEP, NEPA process, and environmental permitting a plus.
  • New Jersey Professional Engineer's license.
  • Experience with NJDOT, NJ Turnpike, NJ Counties and/or MPOs.
  • Strong client management skills, excellent communications and interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability.
  • Understanding of business development process and experience writing technical proposals is preferred (Must).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks or projects concurrently and a proactive collaborative approach to project development.
Preferred Experiences
  • Experience with multiple project delivery methods i.e. Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3
Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
