Job summary

Langan is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Project Manager/Engineer to join our collaborative team in Chicago, IL. This role focuses on client interaction, staff training, project leadership, and the preparation of technical reports, plans, and specifications for geotechnical projects.

You will design foundations, retaining walls, and other geotechnical elements, partnering with leadership in a dynamic, evolving environment. PE licensure and 10+ years' experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master's in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineer licensure required.
  • 10+ years of geotechnical experience; field and office experience.
  • Experience with geotechnical investigations, reports, and specification writing.
  • Experience with earthwork, piles, load testing, and retaining wall design.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, plans, and geotechnical recommendations.
  • Prepare proposals, coordinate projects, manage clients and billing.
  • Mentor, coach, and review work for staff.
  • Develop new business while maintaining existing clients and strong billability.
  • Support excavation designs and Plaxis 3D analyses.
  • Log borings and perform field observations during construction.
  • Manage multiple projects within budgets and schedules.

Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Project Manager / Engineer to join its collaborative team in Chicago, IL. This individual will serve a key function in managing client interaction, providing staff training and project leadership, preparation of technical reports, specifications, plans, designing foundations, retaining walls, and other geotechnical aspects of construction. In this role, you will have the opportunity to partner cross-functionally with top industry leadership in an ever-evolving environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Preparation of technical reports, specifications, construction plans, and geotechnical recommendations;
  • Preparation of proposals, coordinating projects, managing clients and managing billings;
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and review of work for staff;
  • Expand services to existing clients, and the potential to develop new clients while maintaining strong billability;
  • Support of excavation designs and Plaxis 3D analysis;
  • Log borings and perform observation during construction projects;
  • Perform and manage multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines. Monitor budgets, schedules, and project timelines; and
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field with a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred;
  • Professional Engineer licensure;
  • 10+ years related geotechnical experience;
  • Prior experience with geotechnical investigations and construction inspections;
  • Office experience with investigation and field work coordination, geotechnical reports, and specification writing;
  • Prior field experience in: earthwork, driven and drilled pile construction, load testing, footings subgrade and backfill inspection, ground improvements, retaining wall design and construction, and excavation support system design and inspection;
  • Desired software knowledge: gINT, Slide/SLOPE/W, PLAXIS, LPILE, GRLWEAP, MSEW, SHAKE;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
  • Some field work is required; and
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.

Pay Range

$117,000 — $1,710,000 USD
