Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead complex commercial construction programs in a dynamic, client-facing capacity. You will own project performance, develop relationships with owners and architects, and serve as the senior onsite and in-boardroom ambassador for the firm.

With 8+ years of experience, you will mentor junior PMs and engineers, oversee budget and schedule control, and drive new business opportunities while representing the company at the executive level.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive commercial construction project management experience.
  • Four-year degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent; equivalent field experience considered.
  • Thorough understanding of construction industry practices, processes, estimating, scheduling, and financial management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and develop new business.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring junior PMs or project engineers.
  • Advanced problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills; persuasive, polished, and able to represent the company at the executive level.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and industry-specific project management software.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing required.

Responsibilities

  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards across your assigned portfolio; set the tone for how work gets done.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with owners, architects, and developers — negotiate, pursue, and secure new business opportunities on behalf of the company.
  • Monitor and control construction through administrative direction of on-site superintendents — keep projects on schedule and on budget, and intervene decisively when situations require it.
  • Represent the company in project meetings, client presentations, and project interviews; serve as the senior face of the firm in the field and in the boardroom.
  • Manage the financial aspects of contracts — fees, rental equipment, income, expenses — protecting the company's interests while preserving strong client relationships.
  • Supervise and mentor project managers and project engineers; invest in their development and hold the team to a high standard.
  • Assist in labor negotiations and strategy meetings as needed.
  • Support company growth initiatives through participation in business development activities.

Job description

  • Step into a senior leadership role at a nationally ranked commercial construction firm with 40+ years of history and $7B+ in delivered projects across 34 states — a company with the scale and reputation to take your career to the next level
  • Own both the work and the relationships — this role carries full responsibility for project performance and client development, giving you the authority and visibility that senior PMs deserve
  • Play a direct role in growing the business: you'll be in front of owners, architects, and developers, negotiating and securing new work — not just executing someone else's pipeline
  • Mentor and develop the next generation of project managers; this is a role for someone who leads people as naturally as they lead projects
  • Work in a culture consistently described by employees as more flexible and collaborative than anywhere else they've worked — empowered, supported, and built for long-term careers
  • Competitive compensation package with strong earning potential commensurate with experience
  • Relocation assistance available for the right candidate

Location: On-site in Leawood, Kansas. You'll be embedded at the center of a growing regional operation, close to clients, projects, and the team you lead.

Note: Candidates must have 8+ years of commercial construction project management experience. Candidates without a GC or construction management background will not be considered.
