Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is seeking a Senior Project Manager or Senior Technical Manager to lead building enclosure projects, manage client relationships, and supervise staff across distributed offices in the United States.

You will perform design and evaluation of repairs to existing building facades, coordinate investigations, field tests, and provide guidance to architects and contractors. Travel to remote job sites is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Architectural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 8+ years of architectural/engineering or construction management experience.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
  • Ability to travel to remote job sites and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in curtain wall design, historic preservation, or related fields is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in design, site investigations, and documentation of existing conditions.
  • Investigate and remediate building envelope malfunctions.
  • Provide design and construction support to contractors and architects.
  • Design and review envelope components including walls, windows, roofs, and plaza waterproofing.
  • Perform field investigations and water leakage testing of systems.
  • Design remedial repairs to building systems.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to staff.
  • Conduct peer reviews of plans and specs.
  • Support litigation and construction administration phases.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations of findings.

The work of the Sr. Project Manager will include new enclosure design and the evaluation, investigation, and design of repairs for existing building enclosures. He/she will manage challenging single major projects, or multiple projects requiring supervision of several staff and client relationships. This person must maintain professional relationships and involvement (associations, committees, etc.) in their field of technical expertise.

What You’ll Do
  • Assisting in design, site investigations, and documentation of existing conditions.
  • Investigation and remediation of building envelope malfunctions.
  • Design and construction assistance to contractors and design consultation to architects.
  • Design and review of all envelope components including wall claddings, windows, roofs, skylights, flooring, plaza waterproofing and below grade elements.
  • Field investigation and water leakage testing of roofing and waterproofing systems, windows, curtain walls, and other building components.
  • Design of remedial repairs to existing building systems, including walls, roofs, window and curtain wall systems, and plaza waterproofing systems.
  • Provides on-the-job training and mentoring to staff.
  • Peer reviews of plans and specifications.
  • Litigation support for projects involving all the issues discussed above.
  • Assist with the construction administration phase of projects.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations documenting work and findings.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Architectural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred)
  • 8+ years of architectural/engineering or construction management experience.
  • Professional Engineer License (P.E.) required
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer graphic skills.
  • Experience in any of the following areas is a plus: curtain wall design, historic preservation, industrial rope access/rock climbing, and public speaking.
  • Ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation, and, an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Compensation

The below range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidate’s experience, qualifications and work location.

Base salary is a part of SGH’s industry leading Total Compensation package. Our Total Compensation package includes base salary, pay for extra hours worked, an annual discretionary bonus program, generous paid time off, and health and wellness benefits with a special emphasis on substantial SGH contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGH’s Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
