Job summary

Stantec’s Austin studio seeks a Senior Project Manager to lead complex architectural projects and grow our Texas integrated design practice. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, manage client relationships, and mentor rising leaders while ensuring design excellence and profitability.

You’ll collaborate with Principals-in-Charge on pursuits, maintain program and budget goals, and drive project delivery from concept to closeout in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing large, complex architectural projects through all phases of design and construction.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain long-term client relationships and pursue new business.
  • Strong financial management including budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, and profitability.
  • Knowledge of building systems, construction methods, accessibility and life safety codes.
  • Leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities while maintaining quality.
  • LEED credentials preferred.

The Texas Buildings practice is one of Stantec's largest and most dynamic architecture and engineering teams, delivering innovative projects across higher education, civic and cultural, workplace, healthcare, science and technology, aviation, mission critical, commercial mixed-use markets.

Our Austin studio is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead complex architectural projects while helping grow one of Texas' premier integrated design practices. This is an opportunity to work alongside nationally recognized architects, engineers, and designers on projects that transform communities, from higher education campuses and civic landmarks to complex public infrastructure and workplace environments.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will lead multidisciplinary teams through every phase of project delivery while serving as a trusted advisor to clients. You will collaborate closely with Principals-in-Charge to cultivate client relationships, support strategic pursuits, mentor emerging leaders, and contribute to the continued growth of our practice.

We're looking for a collaborative leader who combines strong technical expertise with exceptional communication, sound business judgment, and a passion for delivering design excellence.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Lead multiple large, complex architectural projects through all phases of design and construction.

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day client contact, fostering strong relationships built on trust, responsiveness, and technical excellence.

  • Collaborate with Principals-in-Charge on business development activities, client positioning, proposal preparation, interviews, and project pursuits.

  • Develop and manage project work plans, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and financial performance.

  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and owner representatives.

  • Monitor project scope, schedule, and budget while proactively identifying and mitigating project risks.

  • Ensure projects meet client goals for program, budget, schedule, quality, and design intent.

  • Facilitate project meetings, owner meetings, consultant coordination meetings, and construction progress meetings.

  • Manage contract administration, including change orders, additional services, applications for payment, and project documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with Stantec's Project Management Framework and quality management processes.

  • Work closely with Operations and Practice Leadership to forecast staffing needs and allocate project resources.

  • Mentor Assistant Project Managers and emerging professionals while fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.

  • Keep the Principal-in-Charge informed of project status, key decisions, financial performance, and client issues throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Lead project closeout activities, ensuring successful project delivery and client satisfaction.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Demonstrated success managing large, complex architectural projects through all phases of design and construction.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain long-term client relationships while supporting business development and pursuit efforts.

  • Strong understanding of project financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, resource planning, invoicing, and profitability.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of building systems, construction methods, accessibility requirements, life safety codes, and applicable building codes.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities while maintaining exceptional quality and client service.

  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to inspire and motivate multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with sound professional judgment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Newforma; experience with Revit, Bluebeam, and project management software is preferred.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture required; Master's degree preferred.

  • Registered Architect (RA) required.

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible architectural experience, including leadership of complex building projects.

  • Demonstrated project management experience across multiple project phases and building types.

  • Experience with higher education, civic, public, healthcare, workplace, science and technology, or other complex institutional projects is preferred.

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary consultant teams and construction administration is highly desirable.

  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP is preferred.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
