Job summary

Memorial Health System is seeking a seasoned Project Manager to lead large, complex programs within a PMO, guiding cross-functional teams across the organization.

You will mentor newer project managers, manage budgets and risks, and ensure alignment with strategic plans. The role requires PMP, 4–5 years PM experience, and strong communication skills in a hybrid environment in Springfield, IL.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or five years of related experience in lieu of degree.
  • PMP certification required or completed within one year of hire; Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
  • At least four or five years of formal project management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage large, complex projects (Tier 1–3) to successful completion.
  • Coordinate project scope, schedule, budget, and resources, communicating with stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop a project management team; drive risk/issue management and governance.
  • Ensure PMO initiatives align with standardization or centralization goals across Memorial Health System.

Job Description Summary

Responsible for the direction, implementation, and completion of projects while maintaining alignment with key organizational strategies. Proactively coaches and develops new (and less experienced) project managers to their fullest potential, providing mentoring, training and peer coaching support as needed. Ensures the vision, values, and strategic plan are cascaded throughout the organization to achieve desired business outcomes. Embodies the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards of Safety, Quality, Integrity and Stewardship that support our mission, vision and values.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Computer Science, Project Management, Organizational Development, or required. In lieu of degree, five years of related experience will be considered.
Licensure/Certification/Registry
  • Professional in Project Management (PMP) required or completed within one year of hire.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred.
Experience
  • At least four or five years of experience in structured, formal project management required.
  • Ability to lead medium to large, complex (Tier 1 through 3 projects), challenging, or time-sensitive projects.
  • Proven experience using project management tools.
  • Demonstrated technical project management experience.

  • Demonstrated successful management of a project team effort. This includes participating in project scoping, cost planning/budgeting of the project, identification of requirements and stakeholders. In addition, experience with risk / issue identification and mitigation planning is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate all processes related to project management activities including creating project documentation and schedule, directing and managing project work, monitoring and controlling project activities and value, and conducting thorough closure and handoff to operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to Lead Tier One, Two and Three projects ranging in length duration. In addition, experience leading programs is preferred.
  • Must have strong analysis, planning, and organizational skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Experience with Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Project Web Application, and Visio preferred.
  • Data modeling and/or workflow process mapping experience preferred.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  2. Regarding specific projects, manages the communication, planning, monitoring/controlling, team building and design aspects to ensure successful completion of large, complex project objectives. Evaluates project activities for effectiveness and goal achievement.
    • Ensures initiatives under PMO are strategically focused on standardization or centralization of MHS functions or functional areas.
    • Manage change to the project scope, schedule, cost and resource needs to keep the project plan on track, updated and reflective of approved changes utilizing the approved change management plan.
    • Identifies opportunities for improvement to existing project management methods.
    • As necessary, collaborates with Quality, Decision Sciences, Innovation, and/or Transformation Division colleagues to enhance project outcomes.
    • Continuously identify, monitor, and advise System Director, Integration and Project Management on PMO project risks. Create and execute risk mitigation plans.
  3. Supports a culture and infrastructure within MHS that enables structured approaches to project-related decision-making and prioritization of strategic initiatives when assigning resources.
  4. Applies a governance framework for decision making to monitor and control the lifecycle of projects in the areas of meetings, reporting, risk and issue management, assurance, and project management control processes.
  5. Manages large amounts of sensitive, confidential information concerning personnel, financial, strategic, and business information contained in minutes, letters and other documents, as well as through meetings, discussions and interventions.
  6. Develops and maintains productive relationships with System Leadership Team, leaders, and colleagues to aid in MHS goal and objective accomplishment.
  7. Serves as active mentor to new and developing team members, formally and informally. Demonstrates qualities of an organization leader as well as a department contributor. Takes the initiative to recognize where to offer support to colleagues through mentorship, coaching or peer support. Participates in interview process (and coordinates as needed) for all potential candidates for the department. Works with department leadership to coordinate onboarding of new colleagues as well as train and lead new and less experienced colleagues as required.
  8. Maintains professional affiliations as appropriate. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings/seminars and workshops.
  9. Performs other related work as required or requested.

Pay Transparency

$40.80 - $63.24 Additional compensation in the form(s) of participation in our annual incentive program are dependent on role. Pay is based on factors such as work experience, education, certification(s), training, skills, and competencies related to the role.
