Job summary

J.F. Brennan Company, Inc. is seeking a Senior Project Manager to oversee multiple marine and heavy civil infrastructure projects from planning to execution.

You will lead diverse teams on pile driving, cofferdams, bridges, docks, and rail facilities, with full financial accountability and active cost control. The role requires a minimum of 10 years in relevant projects, strong leadership, and extensive scheduling and contract administration expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years in marine or heavy civil projects.
  • Experience with bridge, dam, dock, rail, and deep foundation work.
  • Strong knowledge of marine construction methods and floating platforms.
  • Experience managing public infrastructure contracts with regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced project controls: scheduling, cost control, procurement, value engineering.
  • Proven ability to lead large teams in marine environments.
  • Strong negotiation and executive reporting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for multiple marine and heavy civil projects.
  • Lead planning and execution of deep foundation, pile driving, cofferdams, sheet piling, bridges, dams, docks, terminals, and rail infrastructure.
  • Maintain full financial accountability: cost control, forecasting, margins.
  • Identify cost risks and implement corrective strategies within budgets and schedules.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules.
  • Collaborate with project managers and field teams to keep schedules aligned.
  • Lead contract administration including change management and claims mitigation.
  • Review submittals and lift plans and critical path schedules.
  • Mentor and develop project management staff.
  • Build relationships with DOTs, USACE, PUDs, rail and port authorities.
  • Support business development through opportunities, client meetings, estimating and proposals.
  • Collaborate on bid strategy, constructability reviews, pricing risk, pursuit planning.
  • Travel to active job sites up to 80%.

Job description

Responsibilities:
  • Provide oversight for multiple marine and heavy civil infrastructure projects
  • Lead project teams in the planning and execution of deep foundation systems, pile driving operations (land and over water), cofferdams, sheet piling, bridge structures, dam construction, dock structures, barge terminals, and railroad infrastructure
  • Maintain full financial accountability for assigned projects, including cost control, forecasting, productivity tracking, and margin protection to ensure projects meet or exceed financial performance targets
  • Proactively identify cost risks and implement corrective strategies to keep projects aligned with approved budgets and schedules
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules to support successful project execution.
  • Capability to collaborate with project managers, field teams, and stakeholders to ensure schedules remain accurate and aligned with project objectives.
  • Lead contract administration including change management, claims mitigation, and negotiations with owners and subcontractors
  • Review and approve submittals, engineered lift plans, marine work plans, and critical path schedules
  • Mentor and develop project management staff
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with public and private owners including DOTs, USACE, PUDs, rail authorities, port authorities, and municipal agencies
  • Support and actively contribute to business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities, assisting with strategic pursuits, participating in client meetings, and supporting estimating and proposal development
  • Collaborate with leadership on bid strategy, constructability reviews, pricing risk evaluation, and pursuit planning
  • Travel to active job sites up to 80% based on project requirements
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing marine or heavy civil infrastructure projects (commercial or residential construction experience alone is not sufficient)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience on projects involving:
    • Bridge substructures and superstructures
    • Dam construction or rehabilitation
    • Dock and barge terminal facilities
    • Railroad infrastructure and rail bridge work
    • Deep foundation systems and pile-supported structures
  • Strong working knowledge of marine construction methods and work performed from floating platforms
  • Experience managing public infrastructure contracts with complex regulatory and safety requirements
  • Advanced understanding of project management control systems including scheduling (Primavera P6 or MS Project), cost control, procurement, and value engineering
  • Proven ability to lead large teams in technically challenging marine environments
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and executive-level reporting skills
