Job summary

GCS-SIGAL is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead large, complex construction projects in the DC area. You will drive project controls, mentor teams, and ensure alignment with client goals through effective communication and strategic decision-making.

The role emphasizes proactive problem solving, rigorous risk management, and delivery of on-time, on-budget results while upholding safety and quality standards across owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in commercial construction.
  • Or a combination of education and experience sufficient to succeed in the role.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience interfacing with clients, architects, owners, and subcontractors; Procore or similar construction PM software.

  • Actively maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Lead project teams and mentor junior staff.
  • Communicate with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors on risk, schedules, costs, and changes.
  • Manage projects using established project controls and procedures.

Position Overview
Senior Project Managers (SPMs) are senior leaders responsible for driving successful project outcomes while elevating the performance of the teams around them. Beyond managing projects effectively, SPMs are expected to lead with professionalism, strategic thinking, and accountability. Successful SPMs combine strong operational execution with leadership presence, proactive problem solving, and the ability to build trust across all levels of a project team. They anticipate challenges before they escalated, create alignment among stakeholders, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Position Overview
Senior Project Managers (SPMs) are senior leaders responsible for driving successful project outcomes while elevating the performance of the teams around them. Successful SPMs combine strong operational execution with leadership presence, proactive problem solving, and the ability to build trust across all levels of a project team. They anticipate challenges before they escalated, create alignment among stakeholders, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
SPM typical responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Actively maintain a safe and efficient work environment
  • Creatively solve challenges that arise on projects with a positive attitude and in an ethical manner
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors related to project risk, timetables, costs/budgets, and change management
  • Mange projects using established project controls and procedures
  • Manage project financial items including owner billing, subcontractor invoice review, and financial status reports
  • Provide leadership to the project team
  • Perform constructability and coordination reviews
  • Accurately and thoroughly prepare subcontractor bids and work scopes
  • Perform pre-construction planning, scheduling, and cost control
  • Set subcontract strategy for the project and manage buy-out process
  • Prepare monthly reports including cost, schedule, safety, cash flow for internal and/or external use
  • Prepare contingency plans for potential risks, expanding contractual services and project profit
  • Verify updates to project drawings, specifications, and other contract documents are documented
  • Work with the project team to develop schedules, site logistics, and phasing plans
  • Anticipate project challenges and proactively implement solutions before escalation
  • Balance operational execution with long-term project strategy and client goals
  • Lead large and/or complex projects requiring advanced coordination, communication, and leadership skills
Leadership & Team Development
  • Mentor and develop Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Engineers through coaching, delegation, and performance feedback
  • Foster accountability, collaboration, and operational discipline across project teams
  • Identify growth opportunities for team members and support their professional development
  • Lead project teams through complex decisions while maintaining alignment and morale
  • Help drive consistency in implementation of GCS-SIGAL operational processes and standards
Client Relations
  • Serve as a senior-level representative of GCS-SIGAL to clients, architects, consultants, and industry partners
  • Build long-term client relationships rooted in trust, responsiveness, and professionalism
  • Lead difficult conversations and conflict resolution efforts with maturity and sound judgment
  • Support business development efforts through relationship management and identification of future opportunities
Experience/Education
  • BS or MS degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in commercial construction
  • Or a combination of education and experience sufficient to succeed in the role
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing project teams
  • Strong communication, client relationship, and negotiation skills
  • Be able to effectively communicate in person, on the phone, and via email
  • Proven history of leading, teaching, and developing others
  • Experience interfacing with clients, architects, owners, and subcontractors
  • Proven ability to multi-task in deadline-driven environment
  • Knowledgeable of principles of architecture, engineering, and construction
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Ability to read specifications, plans, and details
  • Working knowledge of Procore or similar construction project management software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • OSHA 10 or 30 (preferred)
