Job summary

GCS-SIGAL, a Washington, DC-based general contractor, seeks an Assistant Project Manager to support project managers and superintendents on diverse construction programs.

You will help plan work on site, develop schedules, manage documents, and coordinate with clients and subcontractors to deliver safe, on-time projects and accurate reporting.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of construction experience.
  • Combined education and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Actively maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Communicate clearly with project team and stakeholders.
  • Process change-orders from subcontractors.
  • Accurately prepare subcontractor bids and work scopes.
  • Process submittals and RFIs.
  • Manage and upload updates to project drawings, specs, and other contract documents.
  • Work with the project team to plan the work on site and manage the plan’s progress.
  • Assist with project financial items including owner billing, subcontractor invoice review, and financial status reports.

Job description

GCS-SIGAL seeks out challenging, rewarding projects, and creative problem solvers to help us build them. We specialize in general contracting, pre-construction, design-build, and sustainable construction. We take on a variety of projects including base building, renovation, historic modernization, and tenant interior construction.

Position Overview

Assistant Project Managers (APM) at GCS-SIGAL play a vital role on our projects, working closely with our Project Managers and Superintendents. APMs meaningfully contribute at every stage of our projects.

APM typical responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Actively maintain a safe and efficient work environment
  • Creatively solve challenges that arise on projects with a positive attitude
  • Communicate clearly and effectively
  • Process change-orders from subcontractors
  • Accurately and thoroughly prepare subcontractor bids and work scopes
  • Process submittals and RFIs
  • Manage and upload updates to project drawings, specifications, and other contract documents
  • Work with the project team to plan the work on site and manage the plan’s progress
  • Work with the project team to develop schedules, site logistics, and phasing plans
  • Assist with project financial items including owner billing, subcontractor invoice review, and financial status reports
Experience/Education
  • BS or MS degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in construction
  • Or a combination of education and experience sufficient to succeed as an APM
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excel at teamwork
  • Be able to effectively communicate in person, on the phone, and via email

  • Proven ability to multi-task in deadline-driven environment
  • Knowledgeable of principles of architecture, engineering, and construction
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Ability to read specifications, plans, and details
  • Working knowledge of Procore or similar construction project management software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience interfacing with clients, architects, owners, and subcontractors
