About This Role

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, and closeout of healthcare capital projects in active, occupied hospital and clinical environments. This role provides leadership throughout all phases of project delivery, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational objectives.

The Senior Project Manager acts as the primary liaison between hospital leadership, clinical departments, facilities teams, architects, engineers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders. Special emphasis is placed on maintaining uninterrupted patient care, infection prevention, life safety compliance, and operational continuity during construction activities.

Essential Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Delivery
  • Manage healthcare construction projects from planning and design through commissioning and occupancy.
  • Develop and maintain project scopes, schedules, budgets, risk registers, and communication plans.
  • Lead design reviews to ensure alignment with clinical, operational, and facility objectives.
  • Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Prepare executive-level reports on project status, budget, schedule, and risks.
Occupied Healthcare Environment Management
  • Develop phasing and logistics plans to minimize disruption to patient care and hospital operations.
  • Coordinate construction activities around critical healthcare services, including surgical suites, imaging departments, emergency departments, and inpatient areas.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) and Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership and facilities operations teams to manage impacts to staff, patients, and visitors.
Budget & Financial Management
  • Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cash-flow projections.
  • Review and approve contractor payment applications and change orders.
  • Evaluate cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and operational requirements.
  • Monitor contingencies and project financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and healthcare regulations.
  • Coordinate permitting, inspections, accreditation readiness, and occupancy approvals.
  • Support compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, NFPA, FGI, and other applicable healthcare standards.
  • Maintain project documentation and records to support regulatory reviews and audits.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Facilitate meetings with executives, physicians, department leaders, facilities staff, design professionals, and contractors.
  • Build consensus among diverse stakeholder groups with competing priorities.
  • Communicate project impacts, milestones, and operational changes clearly and proactively.
  • Manage expectations and resolve project conflicts effectively.
Construction Administration
  • Oversee contractor performance for safety, quality, schedule, and budget adherence.
  • Conduct site observations and monitor construction progress.
  • Review RFIs, submittals, change orders, and construction schedules.
  • Coordinate commissioning, training, punch list completion, and project turnover activities.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of project management experience in healthcare construction, healthcare facilities, or owner's representation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects in occupied acute care hospitals and healthcare campuses.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare facility operations and clinical environments.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects ranging from renovations to major capital expansions.
  • Proficiency with project scheduling, budgeting, and project management software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PMP, CCM, CHC, PE, RA, or related professional certification.
  • Experience serving as an Owner's Representative or Owner's Construction Manager.
  • Knowledge of FGI Guidelines and Joint Commission standards.
  • Experience with commissioning and activation planning.
  • Familiarity with Lean Healthcare and Alternative Project Delivery principles.

Working Hours: On-site; Standard hours; full-time, exempt

Compensation Range: $140,000-$160,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and location.
