Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with a strong technical background in material handling, warehouse storage systems, pallet racking, industrial shelving, and mezzanine installations. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on project management expertise with technical design capabilities, estimating, vendor coordination, construction oversight, and customer relationship management. This opportunity is particularly well-suited for an experienced Project Manager, Applications Engineer, Systems Designer, Project Engineer, Design Engineer, or Estimator who has worked directly within the warehouse racking and material handling industry.

The Senior Project Manager will oversee warehouse storage projects from initial customer requirements and design through estimating, procurement, installation, and final completion. This role requires someone comfortable working independently, managing multiple simultaneous projects, and coordinating with customers, vendors, and installation teams.

Project Management & Execution
  • Manage multiple material handling and warehouse storage projects simultaneously from initial planning through completion.
  • Oversee project lifecycles, including customer requirements, site assessments, design, estimating, procurement, installation, and closeout.
  • Coordinate project handoffs from sales and translate customer requirements into actionable designs and execution plans.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, installation timelines, budgets, and material delivery dates.
  • Coordinate with customers, engineers, designers, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal departments.
  • Identify and resolve scheduling conflicts, design challenges, material shortages, and installation issues.
  • Manage project changes, customer requests, and modifications to existing designs.
  • Monitor project costs and ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Travel to customer facilities and installation sites as needed.
Material Handling & Warehouse Storage Systems
  • Manage projects involving pallet racking, industrial shelving, mezzanines, pick modules, and conventional warehouse storage systems.
  • Understand selective pallet racking, structural racking, roll-formed systems, and other warehouse storage configurations.
  • Evaluate warehouse dimensions, aisle widths, ceiling clearances, forklift access, and storage requirements.
  • Understand racking components such as uprights, beams, bracing, anchors, wire decking, and related accessories.
  • Coordinate the integration of mezzanines and elevated storage platforms into warehouse layouts.
  • Work with manufacturers and engineers to ensure systems meet applicable project specifications.
  • Support new warehouse construction buildouts, facility expansions, redesigns, and storage optimization projects.
Technical Design & Applications Engineering
  • Independently develop, modify, and review accurate, to-scale warehouse storage layouts using AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
  • Prepare or coordinate installation drawings, fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and permitting documentation.
  • Interpret architectural plans, warehouse layouts, technical drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Conduct or coordinate site measurements and field surveys.
  • Prepare and review bills of materials (BOMs), material takeoffs, and component quantities.
  • Coordinate with structural engineers regarding load capacities, seismic considerations, anchoring, and permitting.
  • Incorporate engineered mezzanine and storage-system designs into comprehensive warehouse layouts.
  • Use Bluebeam or comparable software to review, mark up, and coordinate technical drawings.
  • Modify designs based on customer needs, field conditions, and installation requirements.
Estimating, Quotations & Procurement
  • Prepare and review estimates, customer quotations, and project pricing.
  • Coordinate with sales and internal teams to establish project scope and material requirements.
  • Request and evaluate vendor, manufacturer, and subcontractor quotations.
  • Negotiate pricing and coordinate material procurement.
  • Develop BOMs and confirm material availability, quantities, and delivery schedules.
  • Monitor project costs, labor estimates, and subcontractor expenses.
  • Communicate pricing adjustments, project changes, and alternative configurations to customers.
  • Coordinate storage-system installations with internal personnel and third-party contractors.
  • Manage installation schedules, material deliveries, and site readiness.
  • Communicate installation requirements and technical drawings to field crews.
  • Monitor project progress and troubleshoot field issues.
  • Coordinate permitting, inspections, and required project documentation.
  • Resolve challenges involving materials, drawings, site conditions, or installation sequencing.
  • Ensure completed installations align with approved specifications and customer expectations.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide technical guidance to project coordinators, designers, estimators, and installation teams.
  • Mentor and train team members in material handling design, project management, and engineering coordination.
  • Help establish consistent project documentation, estimating, scheduling, and execution practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, project profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with sales, operations, engineering, and field teams to strengthen project delivery.
Required Qualifications
  • Significant direct experience within the material handling, warehouse storage, pallet-racking, or industrial shelving industry.
  • Hands-on knowledge of conventional pallet-racking systems and warehouse storage installations.
  • Experience managing warehouse storage projects from planning through installation.
  • Strong AutoCAD proficiency, including independently preparing and modifying warehouse storage layouts.
  • Experience with technical drawings, bills of materials, project estimating, or quotations.

  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of projects.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Willingness to travel nationally up to approximately 40%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a Senior Project Manager, Applications Engineer, Systems Designer, Project Engineer, Design Engineer, or Estimator within the material handling industry.
  • Background with a pallet-racking manufacturer, storage-system distributor, material handling dealer, or installation contractor.
  • Experience designing selective pallet racks, structural racks, industrial shelving, and warehouse storage layouts.
  • Familiarity with mezzanines, pick modules, pushback racks, drive-in racking, and pallet-flow systems.
  • Experience preparing installation drawings, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and permit sets.
  • Experience using Bluebeam, Revit, SolidWorks, or similar technical design software.
  • Knowledge of structural engineering coordination, seismic requirements, and permitting.
  • Experience managing warehouse buildouts, expansions, and storage-system retrofits.
  • Experience preparing estimates, negotiating with vendors, and overseeing installation contractors.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or mentorship experience.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate combines direct material handling industry experience with technical design and full-cycle project management capabilities. We are especially interested in professionals who can independently develop warehouse storage layouts, prepare bills of materials, coordinate estimating and pricing, communicate with vendors and customers, and manage installation projects from start to finish. Candidates currently working as Applications Engineers, Systems Designers, Project Engineers, Estimators, or Design Engineers are encouraged to apply if they possess direct conventional warehouse storage-system experience and are interested in expanding into senior project management responsibilities. This is not a general construction project management position. Direct experience with pallet racking, industrial shelving, and traditional warehouse storage systems is essential.

This is a full-time, on-site opportunity based in Los Angeles, California, with nationwide travel as required. The successful candidate will work closely with sales, operations, engineering, and installation teams while managing technical design, project execution, customer communication, and construction coordination. We are seeking someone interested in building a long-term career, sharing technical expertise, developing team capabilities, and contributing to the company's continued growth.
