Job Description

The Senior Project Manager Research supports the operations of the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute Center for Pediatric Acute and Critical Care Research and Innovation (PACCRI) in close partnership with the PACCRI scientific faculty leaders. This role involves strategic collaboration with leaders across the research enterprise, hospital, faculty, and external stakeholders to align PACCRI’s goals, activities, and timelines for measurable impact. The administrator plays a central role in coordinating initiatives that advance the program’s mission and is responsible for overall administration, operational oversight, financial management, strategic planning, and the coordination of complex scheduling needs. The person in this role should be a visionary, able to work with the PACCRI scientific leaders to develop and execute on an innovative, multidisciplinary, and paradigm-shifting vision of being the hub for acute and critical care research.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the PACCRI to ensure efficiency and alignment with strategic goals
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities and manage program logistics
  • Maintain documentation, reporting systems, and data tracking to support program evaluation and performance metrics
  • Serve as a liaison between PACCRI leadership, hospital and faculty departments, research administration, and external partners
  • Facilitate clear and consistent communication across stakeholders to advance PACCRI initiatives
  • Support the planning and execution of high-level meetings, events, and collaborative initiatives
  • Track key initiatives, timelines, and deliverables to ensure project milestones are met
  • Organize and manage complex scheduling for PACCRI-related meetings and events, including executive-level and cross-institutional gatherings
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations, proposals, and reports for internal and external audiences
  • Partner with the appropriate research administration offices to ensure proper management of program budgets, expenditures, and financial reporting


Essential Job Functions:

  • Works with the Research Manager to support division-wide research program operations; helping to improve
  • overall workflows, technical research systems, and research processes.
  • Manages programmatic activities for multiple internally and externally funded, complex research projects, and
  • subsequent activities related to additional and ongoing funding.
  • Ensures compliance with research protocols and regulatory guidelines and identifies risks and develops
  • workflow strategies to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Develops research portfolio metrics that effectively evaluate and measure the performance of the division’s
  • research portfolio.
  • Provides quarterly research portfolio progress and metric reports to divisional research leaders.
  • Works with the Research Business Operations (RBO) offices and Office of Clinical and Community Trials
  • (OCCT) to facilitate contract negotiations and execution, to ensure proper accrual tracking, and to provide
  • additional information as needed for timely financial reconciliation, management, and reporting.
  • Partners with program leaders to develop and oversee relationships with key internal and external
  • stakeholders. This includes working with outside partners (e.g., collaborators, funders, subcontractors,
  • consultants, etc.) and Lurie Children’s administrative.
  • Assists with onboarding and training of additional study team members conducting day-to-day activities for
  • ongoing research projects.
  • Leads or participates in division research meetings and sponsor study meetings/teleconferences.
  • Other job functions as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree with four or more years research experience required. Master’s degree and/or relevant
  • research certification preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of research administration experience required.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple simultaneous studies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Provides high-quality customer service.
  • Excellent knowledge of FDA, HSR, and GCP Guidelines.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to understand financial data, recognize quantitative and qualitative
  • research methods. Remains agile and adaptable plus assists in implementation of various technological
  • systems.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, problem solve, and mentor other team members.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive environment where all team members feel valued and respected.

Pay Range

$76,960.00-$125,840.00 Salary

The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position.
