Job summary

Blum Construction is seeking a senior project leader to provide overall management direction for existing projects and develop new business opportunities within a defined client base and geography.

You will plan, staff, and guide project teams, coordinate with clients and subcontractors, and monitor schedules and budgets while upholding safety and quality standards. A four-year degree plus extensive experience is expected.

Qualifications

  • Four-year engineering degree or equivalent with extensive construction/finance management experience.
  • Ability to apply innovative management techniques to maximize employee performance.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate practices and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced understanding of cost accounting, construction technology; working knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Excellent communication, organization and supervisory skills; ability to motivate workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and staff key field positions.
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within company policy.
  • Initiate and maintain liaison with client and subcontractors to facilitate construction activities.
  • Monitor/control construction to ensure on-schedule and within-budget delivery; implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Represent company in project meetings; assist in strategy discussions.
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts to protect company interests and maintain client relations.
  • Supervise Superintendents, crew, Project Managers and staff.
  • Review site safety to ensure zero-tolerance for unsafe practices.
  • Participate in strategic planning and lead by example.

Summary:

Provide overall management direction for existing projects and develop new business opportunities relative to a particular client, group of clients, geographical area or type of project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize and staff key field positions
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of company policy
  • Initiate and maintain liaison with client and subcontractors to facilitate construction activities
  • Monitor/control construction through administrative direction of on-site Superintendent to ensure project is built on schedule and within budget; investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures
  • Represent company in project meetings; assist in strategy meetings, etc.
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts (fee payment, rental equipment, income/expenses, etc.) to protect company’s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with client
  • Supervise the work of the Superintendents and crew, as well as the Project Managers (I and II), and the operations administrative staff
  • Comprehends, teaches and implements FLB Best Practices and assist in the revisions of the existing FLB Best Practices
  • Regularly reviews the site with the Superintendents for compliance to the project safety plan, stressing a zero tolerance for unsafe work practices and addresses any issues that arise immediately
  • Participates in the FLB Strategic Plan
  • Leads by example:

  • Regularly participates in personal training and education
  • Is punctual, honest and responsible when dealing with customer, partner and FLB employee issues
  • Initiate challenges to the superintendents, foremen, crew members and the operations administrative staff to be:
  • Thoroughly trained

Qualification Requirements:
  • Requires a four year engineering degree or equivalent combination of experience and training/experience plus extensive (ten or more years) experience/knowledge of construction, design, finance management required
  • Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance
  • Thorough knowledge of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities vital; superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills essential
  • Advance understanding of cost accounting, construction technology and working knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Excellent communication, organization and supervisory skills essential, as well as the ability to motivate work force
Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to sit or stand and walk for extended periods of time with the occasional ability to stoop or kneel
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Position requires the willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel. Position may require evening and weekend hours, as well as the occasional overnight trip
  • Vision abilities for this position include close vision as well as distance vision
  • Ability to repetitiously use hands and fingers to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard
