Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a Project Leader to integrate project management principles across a wide range of initiatives in the Sigma Operations Group. You will coordinate with scientists, program offices, and line management to define deliverables, budgets, and schedules, and to ensure successful execution through the project lifecycle.

The role emphasizes stakeholder communication, risk management, and mentoring of junior staff, with a focus on complex, multi-year efforts

Qualifications

• Experience managing moderately to highly complex projects across the full project lifecycle.
• Knowledge of project management principles, including WBS, schedules, work packages, and baseline/change control management.
• Ability to manage scope, schedule, cost, and performance, and prepare project documentation and reports.
• Experience managing projects with technical and operational components.
• Experience working with external vendors, setting up and monitoring multi-million, multi-year contracts.
• Ability to serve as the primary point of contact for project status, risks, and issues, delivering briefings to leadership and stakeholders.
• Proven ability to analyze, research, and resolve complex problems independently and collaboratively.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including consensus building, conflict resolution, and relationship development.
• Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary interface between project scientists, program, and line management to establish technical requirements, deliverables, budgets, and schedules.
• Manage moderately to highly complex projects, ensuring deliverables are completed within scope, schedules, and budgets; document all changes.
• Interface with program and line managers to assist with deconfliction and ensure resources are available.
• Identify and manage procurement needs.
• Interface with program office and line management to develop and negotiate work packages and budgets.
• Mentor junior team members with the possibility of providing input to performance evaluations.
