Moog is looking for a Senior Project Lead Engineer (Sr. Project Engineer) for our growing Mechanical Design Engineering department, developing flight control and weapons bay actuators for next-generation aircraft. We are expanding our staff as we grow our technology, mission areas, and market share. You will report to an Engineering Manager and work a 9/80 schedule with a hybrid work option (3 days/week in the office) in Torrance, CA.

Role Overview:

You will lead the design, development, and integration of electro-mechanical and mechanical actuators for military aircraft. You will oversee project planning, organization, stakeholder collaboration, technical oversight, risk and budget management, quality assurance, documentation, reporting, team leadership, and continuous improvement.

We are a global leader in designing primary and secondary flight control actuation systems (FCAS) for military aircraft, including systems for the F-35 Lightning II and V280 Valor tiltrotor. Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team to develop, integrate, and verify complex control actuators.
  • Manage project execution, including planning, organizing, and resource management.
  • Track and report team progress against schedule and budget.
  • Coordinate work of engineers and technicians.
  • Guide conceptual design evolution and serve as customer contact.
  • Develop verification plans, test procedures, and analyses.
  • Coordinate qualification testing and work with Program Management to execute product development.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external audiences.
  • Prepare and deliver customer presentations for design reviews and technical meetings.
  • Support programs with some travel (approximately 5%) and customer engagement.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in STEM (Engineering, Math, Science, Technology).
  • 7+ years of experience in design/development engineering (with specific years depending on degree level).
  • Active US security clearance or ability to obtain one (U.S. citizenship required).
  • Experience leading technical teams.
  • Strong communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing project scope, schedule, and costs.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with electrohydraulic or electromechanical actuators.
  • Knowledge of EVMS, project planning, scheduling, and MS Project.
  • Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree.
  • Experience with complex system design, analysis, and development.
  • Testing experience with electric/hydraulic systems.

Salary Range:

$130,000 - $170,000 annually in Torrance, CA.
