Job summary

Langan is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Project Engineer to join its collaborative team in New York. This role focuses on managing client interaction, providing staff leadership, performing numerical analyses to model foundation settlements, site-specific seismic studies, and preparing technical reports, plans, and specifications for geotechnical construction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform or check numerical analyses to model building foundations, excavations, and dewatering.
  • Perform or check site-specific seismic studies and provide code-compliant recommendations.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and geotechnical recommendations; develop proposals and coordinate projects.
  • Mentor staff, review work, and manage budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinate client interactions and project billings; oversee field investigations.

Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Project Engineer to join its collaborative team in New York. This individual will serve a key function in managing client interaction, providing staff training and project leadership, performing numerical analyses to simulate foundation settlements, site‑specific seismic studies, preparation of technical reports, specifications, plans, designing foundations, and other geotechnical aspects of construction. In this role, you will partner cross‑functionally with top industry leadership in an ever‑evolving environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform or check numerical analyses to model building foundations, excavations, and dewatering
  • Perform or check site‑specific seismic studies (developing ground motions, ground response analyses, develop code‑compliant recommendations);
  • Preparation of technical reports, specifications, and geotechnical recommendations;
  • Preparation of proposals, coordinating projects, managing clients and managing billings;
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and review of work for staff;
  • Perform observation during construction projects;
  • Perform and manage multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines. Monitor budgets, schedules, and project timelines;
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; PhD preferred;
  • Professional Engineer licensure;
  • 10+ years related geotechnical experience;
  • Prior experience with geotechnical investigations and construction inspections;
  • Office experience with investigation and field work coordination, geotechnical reports, and specification writing;
  • Prior field experience in: earthwork, driven and drilled pile construction, load testing, footings subgrade and backfill inspection, ground improvements, retaining wall design and construction, and excavation support system design and inspection;
  • Desired software knowledge: PLAXIS, DEEPEX, FLAC2D/3D, LS-DYNA, LPILE, CLIQ, DEEPSOIL/RSSEISMIC, OPENQUAKE;
  • Desired knowledge of ASCE 7;
  • Required working knowledge of EXCEL, WORD, POWERPOINT;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
  • Some field work is required;
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Pay Range

$117,000—$171,000 USD

Additional Information

Certain U.S. jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm’s annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
