Job summary

Mott MacDonald in the New York/New Jersey region seeks a driven project engineer to design and manage water and wastewater projects, leading a team of junior engineers to deliver high-quality outcomes.

You should have 7–12 years of relevant experience, a Bachelor’s in Engineering, and a NJ/NY Professional Engineer license. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, and MS Office is required. The role supports a hybrid in-office culture.

• Licensed Professional Engineer in New Jersey and/or New York.

• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-starter, organized, able to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Complete preliminary and detailed engineering design and docs for water/wastewater projects.
• Perform preliminary engineering by data analysis, design calculations and option evaluation.
• Prepare planning/design docs, cost estimates, drawings and specifications with the team.
• Conform to client and company standards for documents and drawings.
• Conduct internal coordination meetings and support client meetings.
• Ensure deliverables are accurate, on time and within budget.
• Ensure QA/QC reviews are performed for each project.
• Assist with construction-phase activities including RFIs/submittals and field observations.

We are seeking a driven and experienced project engineer to design and manage projects in the New York/ New Jersey area. We are seeking someone who has 7 to 12 years of experience and is enthusiastic about delivering water and wastewater projects. You will be responsible for managing all or portions of projects and leading a team of junior engineers by helping them grow and develop their careers.

Responsibilities include:

• Complete preliminary and detailed engineering design and associated documents on a variety of water and wastewater treatment and collection and distribution projects

• Perform preliminary engineering by analyzing data, performing design calculations in accordance with regulatory requirements and guidelines and evaluating options to develop the best solution

• Prepare planning and design documents, cost estimates, calculations, project drawings, and technical specifications in coordination with project managers, project engineers, CAD staff and other disciplines

• Conform to client and company standards for document and drawing preparation

• Conduct internal coordination meetings and provide substantial support for client meetings

• Work with team to ensure deliverables are executed with technical accuracy, on time and within budget

• Ensure formal QA/QC reviews are performed for each project one is responsible for

• Assist with various construction phase office support activities including review of RFI’s and submittals, and participate in field work including construction observation activities

The ideal candidate will have the following:

• Minimum 7 years of project experience for municipal and/or private development related to design and design review of water/wastewater systems including treatment facilities, water and stormwater piping, sewers, sewer rehab, mechanical piping and lift stations.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Environmental or similar)

• Licensed as a Professional Engineer in New Jersey and/or New York

• Desired Computer skills: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit (or other 3D BIM software), Microsoft Office Suite.

• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills including technical report writing.

• Enthusiastic, dependable, self-starter, who is organized and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.

The expected salary for this position is

NY: $152,000 - $186,000

NJ: $143,000 - $175,000
