Job summary

GAI Consultants, Inc. seeks a Senior Traffic Engineer to work from our Cranberry Township, Homestead, or Southpointe, PA offices within the Transportation Business Unit.

The successful candidate will lead traffic tasks with complex features, collaborate effectively, and leverage expertise in PennDOT, PA Turnpike, and MUTCD design requirements. Allegheny County and City of Pittsburgh experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering required.
  • 15+ years of engineering experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • MicroStation CAD skills required; OpenRoads Designer a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead production and checking of traffic reports, design plans, calculations, specs, and cost opinions.
  • Perform traffic modeling and analysis using HCS and Synchro/SimTraffic, etc.
  • Design traffic signals, signing and pavement marking, and traffic control layouts.
  • Lead projects with complex features and supervise others as needed.

Job description

GAI Consultants, Inc is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to work out of our Cranberry Township, Homestead, or Southpointe, PA offices within our Transportation Business Unit. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment. The candidate must be a team player who excels in collaborative environments and has the ability to independently lead traffic tasks with complex features by work performed directly or through supervision of others. Shall be familiar with PennDOT, PA Turnpike, and MUTCD design requirements. Allegheny County and City of Pittsburgh experience a plus.

Responsibilities include:
  • Leading the production and checking of technical traffic reports, design plans, design calculations, specifications, and cost opinions.
  • Primary tasks will include traffic modeling and analysis (Highway Capacity Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, etc.), traffic signal design, signing and pavement marking design; and traffic control (Maintenance and Protection of Traffic) design.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors or better in Engineering.
  • Experience 15+ years.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Possesses exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • MicroStation computer-aided design skills required, OpenRoads Designer experience a plus.

Education
  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering, Master's Degree or Equivalent Experience Preferred
Certification/Licensure
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states.
  • Driver’s License
Technical Responsibilities
  • Frequently develops standards and guidelines.
  • Leads a project in the practice in their area of specialization.
  • Frequently develops appropriate design alternatives for complex engineering projects that consider realistic requirements, constraints, community input, permitting, and other regulatory constraints.
  • Integrates advanced concepts to solve complex problems.
Project and Task Management
  • Oversees large or multidiscipline project teams.
  • Recommends personnel and funds required to carry out projects.
  • Oversees technical, legal, and financial issues of an entire project.
  • Integrates these components into a complete project management plan for a complex engineering project.
  • Determines project objectives and requirements.
Management Responsibility
  • Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
  • Implements staff development plans within their organizational segment, including technical, management, and leadership skills.
Communication Skills
  • Possesses exceptional oral and written communication skills, including negotiation of critical issues and effective persuasive communication.
  • Demonstrates financial acumen and familiarity with legal issues related to engineering practice.
  • Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with key engineers and officials, or other organizations and companies.
