Job summary

Brooksource is hiring on behalf of a top 10, 100% employee-owned EPC firm for high-voltage substation projects (13kV–765kV) across utility and energy clients. You will lead engineering execution and serve as primary client contact.

You will mentor Staff Engineers, guide multidisciplinary teams, and shape technical direction while growing into leadership roles within a national scope.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) is required; Mechanical Engineering may be considered with substantial substation design experience.
• 7+ years of high-voltage substation engineering experience on utility or power delivery projects, with leadership responsibilities.
• Experience as a technical lead or primary engineering contact for utility clients is preferred.
• Strong background in Protection & Controls (P&C) or Physical Design within the substation industry.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage workplans, schedules, and budgets.
• Familiarity with IEEE, NESC, and related standards; excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate scope changes and prepare engineering change orders as projects evolve.
• Direct subcontracted design efforts and coordinate field engineering support as needed.
• Present engineering solutions and proposals to clients and stakeholders.
• Support business development with technically solid proposals.

This team is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead the engineering execution of high-voltage substation projects ranging from 13kV to 765kV for utility and energy clients.

This is a full-time opportunity to join a highly respected engineering organization. In this role, you will lead and manage a multi-discipline team in the development of engineered substation designs to support the safe and reliable delivery of electricity across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. You'll serve as the primary engineering point of contact for utility clients, guide Staff Engineers in the execution of engineering deliverables, and help shape the technical direction of complex projects while building a long-term career with opportunities to grow into engineering management, project management, or broader leadership roles.

Description:

• Lead the engineering execution of Design-Only and EPC substation projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables while supporting project safety, schedules, and overall project objectives.
• Serve as the primary engineering point of contact for utility clients, building trusted relationships and providing technical guidance throughout project execution.
• Lead, mentor, and provide technical direction to Staff Engineers and multidisciplinary engineering teams while supporting their professional development.
• Coordinate engineering activities across U.S. and global engineering teams to ensure deliverables are completed on schedule and aligned with client expectations.
• Oversee engineering quality through design reviews, implementation of QA/QC processes, and adherence to client and industry standards.
• Partner with Project Managers and Project Controls teams to manage engineering schedules, labor budgets, progress, and resource planning.
• Evaluate scope changes, communicate engineering impacts to clients, and prepare engineering change orders when project requirements evolve.
• Manage subcontracted engineering design efforts and coordinate field engineering support as needed.
• Present engineering solutions, technical designs, and proposals to utility clients, contractors, permitting authorities, and other project stakeholders.
• Support business development by leading technical proposal efforts and identifying engineering solutions that meet client needs.
• Directing and managing field services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required. Mechanical Engineering may also be considered with significant substation physical design experience.
• 7+ years of high-voltage substation engineering experience supporting utility or power delivery projects, including engineering leadership responsibilities.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineering design efforts for Design-Only andor EPC substation projects.
• Experience serving as a technical lead or primary engineering point of contact for utility clients is strongly preferred.
• Strong background in Protection & Controls (P&C), Physical Design, or a combination of both within the substation industry.
• Experience leading, mentoring, or providing technical direction to engineers and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Working knowledge of utility standards, engineering design practices, and industry codes (IEEE, NESC, etc.).
• Ability to manage engineering workplans, schedules, labor budgets, and project priorities while supporting successful project execution.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients, contractors, and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Strong leadership, organization, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard engineering software.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
